Anyone entered or entering the RTE weather comp for winter?

Thinking of entering myself for the first time. I didn’t really have a very wintry shot so went with the one below cause it shows a bit of winter and I like it at the mo. Any C&C before I post it this evening? Also if anyone else is putting in a shot would love to see them here too.

Way nicer than the one i submitted, but to be honest with RTE and the past winners, they don’t seem to fit the theme at all.

I have seen some excellent shots in the runner ups, then the wining shot (irishwonkafan’s shot last winter springs to mind) but then again Alan’s shot got more airtime, i think it made about 17 out of the 30 days ,if i recall.

Yeah I love irishwonkafan’s Winter Wonderland photo and love seeing it on the weather. I think it would have won Winter if it was entered there instead of Autumn.

Post yours up and give us a look?

I’m sticking this one in for winter. I’d love to have held on to the other one for winter but I’ve had it since early last year and could wait no longer. Got kind of embarrassing over Christmas…my mother even stopped ringing to tell me it was on.

And no, the horizon isn’t off!

Ah, that’s a cracker. Where was it taken? I just about prefer the other one but still, I think this will do well. Good luck.

I’ve just had a look at past entries there and the main criteria they seem to be judging on is:

Composition for interest on the right
    Kind of weather related
    Fits with the season

Thanks. That was taken on the road out of Bunclody up to the top of Mt Leinster. It was the first real serious frost of the winter down this way.

I think in past comps it’s the sky that attracts most interest especially around the summer ones. The Spring comp was won by a train in a squall – nice pic but as John pointed out it fell between the cracks of being within the theme. The summer one also had quite a few bridges involved so this might be a way forward. Anyway, after winter there’s spring and I’m sure lambs, flowers and calm, flowing skys will once again come to the fore.

They do point out in the recommendations to have the point of feature to the right side so that it isn’t blocked by the presenter. In the spring comp I flipped a shot of Hook Head so that it featured on the RHS. Anyone with even the slightest knowledge of the area would have realised Dunmore East was on the other side of the lighthouse!

    Alan.

    PS – Best of luck.

Both Phil and Alan’s shot are great but as others have said…it does’nt always go to
the best shots…take the Autumn winner for instance…Alans photo was way nicer
and a few more as well…but the winning images over the years seem to be all over
the place as regards composition and also fitting the theme…but we just have to
    keep on trying!!!

Here’s my effort…its the landscape version of a photo that i posted on PI last Nov.

    Noel Browne.

I reckon we’ll be seeing a lot more of that one Noel!

Loved that shot too when I saw it. A nice wintry feel to it and a great sky. Hopefully one of us will do well.

Some of the shots in the previous competitions have been a all over the place alright. It’s amazing what differences people see when they look at an image. I suppose they’re not looking too much at the photography side of it and are weighting their decision based on what they think will be good on screen.

thinking of this one but there is another in the pot.
This is not as stunning as Alan’s or Noel’s but ill lash something in anyway.

I like that one too aoluain. It’s a little blue on the grass in the foreground on my monitor.

Nice Jody. I think the dimensions need to be 3000px x 2400px though? Maybe you’re working for widescreen TV? ;-)
