Anyone get any nice books for christmas?

Picked up a few Dewi Lewis publishing books myself:
East End Photographs by Steven Berkoff, nice old street photographs taken in the east end of London.
Pictures Post Photographer by John Chillingworth, nice old photographs from the 1950’s taken mostly in the UK but also some from outside the UK.
Here Far Away by Pentti Sammallachti. This is a great book, one of my favorites that I bought in 2013, think Eddie recommended this one earlier in the year.

Also picked up a copy of The Garden Orgeval by Paul Strand, very nicely presented but was not blown away by the content… think its was his last book, the pictures were taken in his back garden. I don’t have any other Paul Strand books so possibly not the best first book to get of his. I have ordered and I am waiting delivery of Paul Strand, Sixty Years of Photographs so hopefully this will give me a better idea of his work.

Was given a signed copy of Michael Kenna’s latest book Shinan, its one of the limited edition books in the hard case. Very nicely presented and printed as you would expect.

Anyone else get any books recently?

    Hey Martin,

yup I came across a book in TK-Maxx! by Lee Frost “Panoramic Photography”

Very interesting, some beautiful shots all made by specialist panorama film cameras
of which he describes each one he used/uses.

Sounds an interesting book I do like Lee Frost. I do like panoramic pictures, recently bought an xpan camera which is panoramic so I’m enjoying using it. Didn’t think tkmax did and books must nosey around next time I’m in.

I bought Paris in my Time by Mark Steinmetz, only arrived yesterday, working my way through it. Printing is very low key but on a nice paper, enjoying it more with each viewing. Also picked up a copy of The Dark Pool by Liam Blake 2003, it was a short run of 120 signed books all images are of Dublin, got it used on Adverts. Love anything Dublin.
    NOTE
Steidl are to reprint Alec Soth’s, Sleeping by the Mississippi in March 2014, a great book its on its third edition but still hard to find and can be expensive. In March it can be bought directly from Steidl at list price or book through the usual sellers like Amazon. There will be big demand so get it early.

I haven’t picked any recently, I would recommend worldofbooks,.. http://www.worldofbooks.com/arts-books/photography-and-photographs.html” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;, I’ve got a few of interest in the past with very good prices, there is some dribble there but well worth a browse.

Martin – I have Paul Strand, Sixty Years of Photographs and it is beautiful – I would be surprised if you don’t really enjoy it. You must be aware of course of the era he was photographing in – but superb.
Something more contemporary – “Strip Search” by Albert Watson – Awesome – but not everybody’s taste perhaps!

    Got this while in San Francisco in October, in his gallery, which is simply amazing. Only reason to go to Fishermans Wharf actually! – https://standhere.rodneyloughjr.com/” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;

Just in the door today came Nat Geo’s Around the World in 125 years. I’m almost afraid to open it…it’s limited edition & a massive 3 volumes!

I just wanted to add one, got it on a voucher after Xmas, The Non Conformists by Martin Parr. This includes his early Black and White work dating back to the 1970’s. Includes some classic well known images. Produced by Aperture it’s fine quality book at a really good price. I much prefer this early work from Martin Parr, this is a fine example.
