Anyone have a 21" iMac
-
markst33Participant
I have been thinking of getting an iMac and I was veering towards the 27″ but I can’t (no matter how hard I try) justify spending nearly €2K on a computer with a new baby in the house. So I have been thinking about the 21″ version.
However I see that the latest offering from Apple will not be user upgradeable nor does it have an optical drive. So I have been keeping my eye out for a 2nd hand version of the last model of 21″.
Does anyone have it and what are their opinions etc.
Cheers,

you can always add more RAM if you find it really bad, but you won’t, at least not for a couple of years anyway if you really don’t look after it!
adrianmatthewsParticipantWith a new baby in the house it’s a big decision …. however, with the new baby you are not going to be able to go to the Pub or get out as often as you’d like (voice of experience father of 3!). So you will need something to entertain yourself. Also the missus it’s to work on all the photo’s your going to take of the new baby… ;-)
New 21″ inch iMac is available to order.
27″ will be available later this month..If you go onto Apple.com you will be able to spec a CTO for yourself, price available
If you go to any of the stores they will be just off the shelf models with standard config. The new design is really smart, suggest you pop into a store and have a look.
A number of years back I spent 3K punts on a G4….. best investment ever…. lasted me for years.
Have a mac book pro now.MurchuParticipant20″ imac here, bought in ’08, and have always been happy with it, seeing little reason to upgrade/ consider upgrading. I use mine for more than just photography, and basically just enjoy using it as it simply works. Mine is something like a dual core 2ghz model, which I stuffed with 4 gigs of ram (the max for my model), when I got it.
Wasn’t aware Apple had dumped the optical drive, seems a strange decision, when cds and dvds are still commonplace, as well as the occasional need to burn each.
The imac is a nice machine, and if moving to apple, think you will like the user experience once you adapt (quickly) to the apple way. An option you might consider also, is a mac mini, which seem to be common place used, and then you can decide to add whatever monitor and peripherals you want.
Good luck with your choice, and would recommend trying one out, if you get a chance and see if you like it all.
