Anyone recommend digital b+w print house ?
-
goonerParticipant
Hi,
Can anyone recommend a good crowd that provide print services for digital b+w images ?
Preferrably online for convenience sake. Have used photobox, happy with the colour prints
I got back, quick delivery etc but not happy with their efforts at black and white.Maybe I’m just too fussy, but I’d like the whites to be white if possible :D

ciaranParticipantI shoot primarily B&W (as can be seen from my website) and to date, any prints I’ve had made I used Photobox. I’ve been really happy with the quality so far.
But recently I made the investment and bought the Epson R2400 – for B&W prints it’s amazing. Well worth the money, and if you’re using Photobox on a regular basis, the investment will pay for itself in the medium~long term.
MarkKeymasterCiaran,
Much trouble with colour management ie getting the prints to look just like they appear on screen ?

MarkKeymasterI like using Peak Imaging for black and whites. They’ve also got very good customer service
and photobox.ie for colour. Photobox have online album storage etc… cheap and quick postage.goonerParticipantSteveFEMemberDuh! I’ve been using photobox.co.uk, never even realised there was a .ie version. Does anybody know if .ie actually print and despatch in Ireland, or is it just an alt localised web address for the UK service? I can log in with my UK detail and I’m obviously recognised. Reason I ask is because post from UK to IE is crap slow, and while Photobox always despatch within 24 hours of order, it takes anything up to 2 weeks to get to me.

Two weeks?
The longest I’ve waited is 7 days. As far as I know, they print and dispatch all the shots from the UK.
MarkKeymasterThey come from the UK Steve. Never had to wait more than a few days.
I used peak imaging lately for b+w, 1.5 weeks, but found that the quality of the paper
and print was better. Used to find a very slight colour cast on the photobox b+w.Mark
jlangParticipantCan’t say I’ve got any in B&W but I have got a few batches of colour shots from foto.com. I think I went with them mainly because they could do 15x11cm in matte at 10c each. (4×3 ratio from compact camera) Works out at about 14c each after postage (would be 9c+postage for 15x10cm=6x4in). Prices seem reasonable for larger prints too.
I think they’re France based. Takes 1-2 weeks for delivery. which can presumably be blamed on An Post . Quality was great although as I didn’t do any in B&W I can’t comment on that. The packaging used was quite sturdy.
(Regarding photobox, I suppose going with the .ie address would get you euro pricing)
I picked foto.com mostly on price but my plan is to get the next few batches from different printers and include about half a dozen identical images with each order so I can compare like for like and decide which comes out best.
AnonymousParticipantHi
Can highly recommend two uk companys called Peak Imaging and Colab Uk,both provide free upload software and the later emplys j-peg 2000 which speeds upload times dramatically. The finished products are as near a quality wet prints from a pro lab as you can get and all images will be color corrected or not at clients request. Even with sterling they beat all irish pro labs hands down and customer service is excellent.
Worth a try..
