Anyone with a Hexar AF
-
hughParticipant
This is a real long-shot but are there any forum users here that own a Konica Hexar AF? One of these babies ….
http://www.cameraquest.com/konhex.htm
and, eh, this is the real long-shot part, would be willing to lend it to me for a short period?
I need it for a project I want to do and would be willing to reciprocate by lending you one of my cameras in return for the same period .. I have a bunch of really nice Medium Format and 35mm film cameras ….. e.g. a Rolleiflex … some other tasty things …
Here’s hoping ….
FintanParticipantLong shot No3
I’d like to get one of them, why don’t you look for a nice one and get it then I’ll take it off you when your project ends.

There’s two problems with that …
1. I need it pretty quickly so don’t want to be dicking about waiting for something to arrive from overseas …
2. if I bought one, more than likely I won’t want to hand it over to you after using it for a while …Oh, and 3 ..
They are kind of hard to come by. There is one on rangefinder forum right now but yer man wants 600 dollars for it, which is a bit steep I think ..
However, I’ll bear it in mind Fintan …
FintanParticipantlooks in lovely condition that one.
black be best for street though imho

I know it does look good …. got the flash and everything. I actually prefer the look of the silver ones to be honest …
I’m really tempted …
SheldonParticipantI used to import them back in the 90’s. I think the street price then was about IR£600. I’m sure I only ever brought in about 10 of them. However there was also another importer at the time but they were offically only for minilab and amateur cameras.
EddieParticipantHugh, There is a guy called Richard Whelan a member of DCC who had one, he may still have it, Vincent of APUG should be able to get you a number or introduction.
hughParticipantI caved in and just ordered one from a place in the UK today. 320 STG all in, good condition, + flash + manual + box … pretty good deal I think ….

I wasn’t. Until the shutter started sticking …
It’s in for repair now but I probably won’t get it back in time. I’m well and truly f****d
FintanParticipanthughParticipantHey Fintan,
Back from repair. Yer man Declan on the SCR did it for me and it seems to work perfectly now .. though I have had no time to go out and shoot with it.
I did do some shooting with it though before it went bellyup and I would say (a) it’s very strange using an autofocus camera when you have been using manual focus for years (b) it’s very strange getting used to the fact that you don’t have to wind it on ….. my thumb still jumps for the level every time I take a shot and (c) on first impressions, the lens seems every bit as brilliant as everyone says it is. Here are some crappy scans of some sneaky shots I took on the Luas with it.
New problem has manifested itself though … the flash doesn’t seem to be working. When I put it on the camera it starts charging up and then makes a loud popping sound before conking out. Which is annoying, as the flash capabilities are supposed to be great.
FintanParticipantCool stuff there Hugh.
I’ve seen one in Prague, black, mintish, inc flash and original pouch for €300 inc shipping/fees and tempted.
damien.murphyParticipantThat’s sounds unfortunate, Hugh
The Hexar’s, both the AF and the RF have interested me for a some time, but they can seem to be cameras that can be difficult/ potentially impossible to repair should parts be required.. a real pity as they seem cracking little cameras, particularly the silent character of the AF.
Like the sneaky pics by the way :) Read something interesting a while back on close quarters shooting, and the idea of using something like a 20mm to get great close shots, as most people suspected you were shooting something behind them

Well the guy that repaired mine had to order a part from England for it and he managed to turn one up within a week or two so maybe it’s not that hard to find them …
