Aperture- a question about deleting Projects

    Can anyone explain to me about Projects in Aperture. Here’s the problem I’m having…

    When I import photos from my camera to Aperture it creates a new project automatically which I name (eg CF card contains images from kids, holiday, birthday etc) so I name it Summer’10. However if I create another folder or album and copy across some images from the project to the new folder or album eg’ kids’ and I now wish to delete the version in the project named Summer’10 but not the newly created folder or album, then I get a message telling me that if I delete the versions in the original project then the same versions in the folder or album will be removed as well.

    Here’s the message I’m getting;
    ”Some versions based on these master files are included in albums outside of the selection.
    These versions will be removed from all Albums, Books, Light Tables, Web Pages, Web Journals, Slideshows, MobileMe Albums, Flickr Albums, and Facebook Albums.”

    Is this a default mode or is there any way of selecting projects to delete without removing the versions which have been copied in other folders or albums? I know my problem stems from workflow practices and I don’t think I am making the best use of Aperture’s organising function – any tips here would be much appreciated. I have my IMAC since May and this problem is really wrecking my head at this stage – my system is clogged with multiple versions and I need to declutter the lot. I have tried tagging images and creating smart albums but I find it does not work consistently – sometimes it picks out say all the ‘kids’ tagged photos and other times they are not there. Any idea what I am doing wrong here.

    Another related problem I’m having is the backup drive (My Book Essential) and time machine – I don’t understand how to retrieve files here, It seems like a totally different system to PC ext HD system I’ve used in the past.
    Cheers in advance :D

    I dont use Mac or Aperture so I may be talking rubbish, but if you cut and paste from
    original folder instead of copying, you are saving yourself the trouble of deleting??

    Like I say could be rubbish, but worth a try. :D
