Anybody interested should check out the Apple site later on… They have just released a Phone/iPod/Internet browser all in one devise plus the aformentioned iTV (or Apple TV as its been renamed) movie streaming device… havent seen the pics yet but prepare to be stunned… the phone especially is supposed to be an amazing piece of kit… anyone want to buy a Nokia 6233… 2 months old… :?
Richie (Mac freakin freak…!)
JohnnyMcMillanParticipantHmmm….heard about this on the radio today….bit sceptic to be honest. Seems everyone I know is starting to dislike Ipod’s these days, with their DREADFUL battery life…
positronMemberShame about the 4GB – 8GB memory! I have a 4GB card working well with a K750i – it was just ?80. But having said that, it does look nice and no doubt it would sell in millions! Should have bought a few Apple shares yesterday!
JohnnyMcMillanParticipantdavedunneParticipantThe phone looks great and has a bunch of features I might even use. I wonder how it will perform.
$499 is a bit steep though.

Ya mean you can speak to another person at the other end? :) :D

I’m with you Johnny. A friend of mine couldn’t walk home from the pub without the battery running out. I can drive to Kerry and back and down again and back with a Creative MP3 jobbie and the battery is still working. Pure hype, but sure isn’t that the world we live in?
stasberMemberMy it’s dark in this closet, with only the glow of a sleep light for company :D
I admit that I was distracted from work last night by the live news feed from the keynote.
Now if only that device allowed me to plug in my card reader & upload or review my freshly taken images I wouldn’t need to invest in another clunky bit of kit.

They’ve been dismal in the past alright but credit where credit’s due, they’ve improved on that, the current Nano has a battery life of 24 hrs – mine hasn’t let me down yet – which is an improvement of 100% on the first Nanos (12hrs); similarly the full size iPods have a (vastly) improved battery life over previous models. My G3 iPod (30Gb) battery after 3 years is about 1/2 of the original 8 hours, though I park it in the car these days mostly.
Though Apple have some way to go in this aspect, they’ve not been ignoring the problem.

Nope, it’s just Apple
earthairfireParticipantLooks great. But so do the nokia N series phones. If you have an issue with battery life, try an N series – I used to have to charge mine twice a day! Loving my old school SE P990 again, having ditched the N series on ebay.
Personally I LOVE my ipod. 3 years old and my battery still lasts for 6 hours :D

jb7ParticipantFunny how its the people who don’t use ipods who are quickest to give them a bashing-
If someone’s battery is worn out, they should change it,
and stop moaning about it- Next thing you know,
even non-users will be complaining on their behalf.Justy for a bit of balance,
and to depart into the world of heresay and unattributability-
everyone I know is DELIGHTED with theirs.
But they are real people,
with real Ipods,
and not some piece of regurgitated internet scaremongering-I’ve got a 3g ipod on its second battery,
and I get a few hours- enough-
later ipods are apparently much better-This new phone looks like a typical Apple product launch-
although individually none of the technology is groundbreaking,
its the way the whole package is integrated seamlessly into a jewel of a case
coupled with the new touch screen interface
that makes it so attractive.I don’t know who’s calling this a phone,
but its a pda sized thing-
and in this case,
I might just wait for the nano-
Based on Apple’s usual product development cycles,
something a good bit nicer and smaller will come out within 12/18 months of the launch of the original.j

:?: I am a user of a mini ipod and the battery is a piece of sh**te. I would not be in a hurry to buy another one.
richiehatchMemberOhhhh…. I have an iPod Photo (not sure which gen it is)… havent had any problems with the battery and it had been used pretty much every day for the last 2 years… I must be just lucky…! Ross you are just unlucky…!
10 people in my office have iPods of various capacities etc and all have no problems… a few have come from other mp3 players and now swear by the iPod…!
J… I am with ye all the way… I think the new device needs a new category as it isnt just a phone…! I wouldnt mind the size aspect but i do wish it had some type of card reader as stabster suggested.. No doubt some type of device will appear..!
Cant wait to see it in the flesh… i will seriously consider it as the integration with all my other Mac Apps would be great..!

Personally I’m not a big fan of the mini / nano ipods. The “full size” ones are a dream, though.

ExpresbroParticipantNot sure what all the fuss is about to be honest. Sure it’s a cool gadget and of course they’ll sell millions. But there are already numerous devices like this on the market, and even my SE k800i does most of what this can do..and is a helluva lot smaller by the looks of it.
I think the advantage this device has over the others of course is that it is backed by probably the cleverest marketing people on the planet. If ya wanna make something sell these days..stick an “i” before the name (not after it like mine..hehehe).
How many people still call their vacuum cleaner a “Hoover”?
