Leftist RhetoricParticipant
Hey guys, was looking for a site like this, just as well I found it then!
I’m a 25 y/o guy based in Armagh. I do all my stuff on film, 35mm and Medium Format, Landscape is my main area. I’m also looking at the pros and cons of large format photography. I have my own darkroom with which I’m struggling to get to grips but it’s coming along.
It’s quite overwhelming looking at all the stunning photos on this forum, I’ll hopefully upload some for your consideration soon. Meanwhile if anyone is into the same niche that I am then get in touch is always good to share techniques and there is loads I have yet to learn.
Des!
S-ManMemberGrahamBParticipantAlan RossiterParticipantWelcome to the time of your life. I have to say that’s an unusual call name you’ve got there. Any reasoning behind it?
Lets see some work then.
Alan.

The only reason behind my “unusual call name” is that I’m partial to some… :)
Mr.HParticipantWelcome Des.. Looking forward to seeing some of your work.
Sounds like you have some interesting kit… Digital man mysellf, but would love to have a play on a large format at some stage…. but not sure I’d fancy carrying it around :) . Reminds me of a trip in Nepal where we met an American guy who was doing large format. He needed a porter just for his Camera!

AliParticipantRobMemberWelcome to the site Des. Enjoy your time here and post
plenty. Looking forward to seeing some of your work…Rob.
jb7ParticipantWelcome Desi,
hope you plan on living up to your name-Not much interest in LF here, unfortunately-
I use it,
though not nearly enough-
Once so far this year,
not at all last year.Though coincidentally, I happen to be taking it out this evening-
Mr. H is right, portability can be a huge issue,
depending on the design of the camera,
what medium you like to use,
whether its sheet or rollfilm,
the range of lenses you use, and their mounts, and their speed-
and the fact that you’ll be using a sturdier than usual tripod and head. The Large Format Forum is an extremely useful resource-
http://www.largeformatphotography.info/forum/index.php
there are extremely knowledgeable people who post tons of useful stuff there-
You were asking about metering elsewhere-
Apart from the bulk of the camera compared to a dedicated meter,
its maybe as good a system as any,
if you find it works for you-Hope to see some pix soon-

ConorParticipantLeftist RhetoricParticipantThanks for all the friendliness guys, I reckon I’m going to enjoy this site alot.
I will have to invest in a quality scanner to upload some of my work, it’s all film and I’ll want to be doing it justice… :) so give me a little time on that front.
jb7, cheers for all the advice, I’m heading to a used camera shop in London tomorrow to have a look at some of their large format cameras, don’t think I’m going to buy anything just yet but I’m really excitied at the prospect and I might pick your brains further in the near future.
