I am just back from Chicago and I am suffering a little bit of jet lag… so I was in the kitchen and decided to mess about with the little few bits I had… How do you think I got on?

    hi,

i think the exposures are great, and the choice of subject in no.1 is very interesting and imaginative. i think in 1 i would perhaps have tried to put the cup etc in the top right third of the image which would make the white space active in the composition, as it is the space (for me) doesn’t really do anything.
also i think if theres going to be a slant perhaps if it were tilted the other way seeming to be spilling the coffee out? not sure though

no.2 has great color but isn’t as catching as no.1. i like the depth of field and position of the knife but having the chili cut across the center of the frame like that deadens the composition. i think also it either needs to show more of the cutting board, or less as the way the corners are cut off makes it sit funny in the frame.

    just my thoughts though…

    Hi Isabella,

Thanks for the comments. I took on board what you said and revisited the idea this afternoon. Here is what I came up with. What you think?

I got rid of the knife and chopping board altogether in the 2nd image! I think it works a lot better (but then I am biased)

    definitely better!

i know i said right, but actually meant left! oops! even so definitely has a more lively kinda feel to it than the first one. i think it balances your logo the way it is and makes it more a part of the image. i dunno if thats what you were going for though!

chilli is definitely better too, a delicious and very striking red. i would chop off the white on the right (actual right this time), making a square image with the chilli by the edge of the frame… good job!

Sorry for the delay in replying Isabella – I did actually try it to the left but for some reason I was a bit more drawn to it from the right side!

The logo’s are just there for my own sake, not intended to be part of the image.. although I have been toying with different designs and themes for my own website recently, I think I have settled for a theme and look.. which doesn’t include the above logo

haha yes i find it quite interesting how logo/signature type things can kinda seem like something separate to some, to me it becomes a graphic design… everything within the frame is part of the image and must be considered. yours actually are not too bad at all, they work very well with the clean white…

there are some which (for me) completely ruin the image they are stuck to either by position or style and seem to go unnoticed by many
