MartinOCParticipant
From a temple in a rural part of Tokyo that I visited at the weekend. Any C&C welcome.
Cheers,Martin
Statues of the “88 Great Masters” with 1 yen coin offerings, they are all different figures.

Last one, not a colour pop, natural colours, with a bit of curve adjustment. I was gutted I got the DoF too shallow, but the bug was moving so no time to think.
nfl-fanParticipantNice little set there Martin. Some lovely colour in #2, #3 and #4.. really vibrant. Nice technique on #1. The beast in #4 looks worthy of a close up in the Nature and Wildlife forum, you get any? #4 is still passable.. irrespective of the depth of field.. nice contrast between the insect and the statue.
MartinOCParticipantThanks John, but no other shot of the bug. I just ID-ed it on wikipedia: Acanthosoma labiduroides, a type of shield bug, related to a stink bug.
Martin
Liam2673Participant‘a rural part of Tokyo’ – is that not an oxymoron?
Lovely series, would have to pick number 4 as my favourite simply for its having captured ‘the decisive moment’, as they say….the photos present it as a very tranquil place. Can i ask is the temple old?
lousyParticipantI really like #1 Martin.. great use of DOF and excellent sharpness in the single Buddah(?)
The other three are also excellent, but #1 stands out for me.Pat
jb7ParticipantGood set Martin,
great colour-
I particularly like the first-A little bit of a shame about the last, I can see where you’re coming from with your remark about the dof-
Would have been nice to get Grasshopper and the Master in focus-
j
MartinOCParticipantThanks for the comments
Liam, it was originally built in 744, I believe but as it is of wood, like most historic buildings in Japan, it has been continually rebuilt. So it would take on newer styles, etc.
I guess the area is a bit like what the Dublin mountains are to Dublin.Lousy, they are actually called “Great Masters” not exactly Buddha, but part of the hierarchy. Maybe more like saints.
Jb, I never thought of the “Grasshopper” connection, very good.
Cheers,
Martin
RobMemberThe first is fantastic Martin, wonderful use of really shallow
depth of field. Good set overall too. Grasshopper… :lol:Rob.
