Inspired by my compadre irishwonkafan… muckin around with the B+W110 filter yesterday morning… keeping things simple:
RobMemberThat’s quite lovely John. Very nice composition and toning.
I’d be well pleased were it one of mine…Rob.
SeaviewParticipantThat’s a lovely image John, the composition great and the exposure is first class.
I know you don’t like people to say this but I think image this would look well printed and hanging on your wall.Dave.
mgstParticipantBrickeeParticipantMartinParticipantVery nice shot, would be very happy with this one. Think the burning on the left and right is possibly a bit too dark but that could be just me
M
PS: Which online shot did you get the B+W110, think i’ll pick one up
nfl-fanParticipantThanks for the feedback everyone, appreciated.
Martin: I got mine from this eBay seller in German (V. Good Seller I might add): http://stores.ebay.de/Foto-Kiesewetter
Just search for 110 and you’ll see what’s in stock. Everything is in German, but you’ll get the drift.
The 77mm, as used in the above shot, are like gold dust.
Alan RossiterParticipantI saw this one appearing in Flickr. I do like it. It isn’t exactly what I’d do myself but with this sort of stuff it’s hard to make it look different but the toning and the vignette do add to this one. Nice to see you getting arty-farty too.
Martin – I got the 77mm filter from this guy. It cost €65 with €9 postage and I had it in 10 days. He currently has a 72mm in stock for €59 and various other diameters below this at good prices too. http://www.photosense.co.uk had them in 77mm but I think others on PI washed him out within a couple of days. It might be worth signing up for a notification of stock if you really wanted the 77mm.
Alan
jb7ParticipantJohn, I think you really have to bite the bullet,
and get yourself a half plate camera with a short Tessar-
and some low speed film-This is quite a good representation of an antique look-
I think, anyway-
ok, the vignette comes in before the lens loses resolution, but…It wasn’t so long ago that I posted a pic in the landscape section,
and was chastised for my use of a vignette-
even though mine was caused by the lens-
I wonder is there a difference? This is a nice effect, including the toning-
ordinarily I might comment that it might be a bit strong,
but the colour saves this one, for me-
its not dissimilar to a picture my grandmother used to have…The one distraction for me is the sky-
I’m not sure it adds anything at all to the picture,
apart from making me feel like another pint of Guinness…j
nfl-fanParticipantThanks again chaps.
LOL.. now that you say it… it does have that Guiness look… and before you said it I did quite like the simplicty the sky brings to the shot in conjunction with the horizon… but now that you’ve said that… ‘argghh’… I can’t see anything else.
Vignetting… I just throw it in when it seems to fit… and that’s a lot lately… sometimes to hide the dark bits.
As for low speed film… I’m a clutz… I’d end up bankrupt and in a straight jacket… anything short of simple… I don’t want to know about it… for now that is. Maybe when I have a year’s experience under my belt I might try something.
Little LadyParticipantPeteMcDMemberCracker! I love this Michael Kenna-esque stuff.
Beautiful detail in the rocks.
The toning is a little strong to my taste. But I see what you’re going for, and its obviously intentional.
I kept meaning to do more like this after my initial foray (which was successful according to the flickr stars ;))
Alan RossiterParticipantThere’s a few guys on Flickr Pete that do this stuff quite successfully. One in particular that does what John has above, and even more minimalist is this guy. I’d rate him quite highly in my books.
Sorry for hogging the thread John
Alan
PeteMcDMemberCheers for that Alan- he’s got some good stuff. One of my favs- http://www.flickr.com/photos/esbozos/
nfl-fanParticipantSome good stuff at those links, especially the 2nd fella… would love to know some of the tech detail on these snaps. Very inspiring indeed. Must get out and try more soon.
