Asked whether my pics are for sale – what to do?

    Hi all,

Like most on here, I have a flickr account. I am an amateur photographer (hobby territory).

A guy I used to work with was having a look at my pics online and mailed me to say he really liked them.

He said he would love to have one of them on his wall and whether it would be for sale.

As I mentioned, these are all up on flickr but are copyrighted and have my own watermark added.

Initially I was going to send him the clean image and let him do what he wants from there but then I started thinking to myself “Hey, I’m a student who isn’t working, why shouldn’t I accept money if it’s being offered”.

Now the answer to this is probably “how long is a piece of string” but what would be the price range to go for?

Also, should I look after getting it printed and factor that in or give him the image and let him take it from there?

Also, should I remove my sig from the image I give him?

Sorry for the endless questions. I’m just hoping that someone on here will have had a similar situation.

    Thanks for the help,

    Paul

    Hi Paul
If he says it’s just for his wall, then I’d ask him what size of print was he wanting and/or thinking about first.

However, first do you your homework – and look-up to see what the going rates are in your area, for various print sizes – so you have that information in front of you, should he ask about price verse sizes available.

(Note: remember to factor in not only the print costs but also the time it will take you to get the print made as well + factor in at least some of your production costs, for producing the actual image in the first place).
