“sorry but you won’t be taking pictures”…general dogsbody anyone ???….this is a photography forum…if you are looking to
get someone to come along and take a few extra shots for you I am sure there would be members here that would love to
do it but asking for someone to carry your gear around etc…well I think thats a bit cheeky really.

    Noel.

There have been numerous posts on this site by people looking to come along and see how a wedding is shot. With your post count I’m pretty sure you’ve seen them…
So Noel.. what gives you the urge to throw you’re euro’s worth in…. Enlighten me please… Share your wondrous thoughts with me so I that I may go off and be a better man.
Why would I want someone else to take pictures? Isn’t that what I’ve been hired to do? But you’d recommend that I ask someone to come along and take my pictures for me… is that it?
And then would you recommend I take credit for them too… Is that what you’d do?
Or… do I perhaps leave the assistant to go off and do whatever they wanted with the images – without the sitters permission. Is that your idea? And tell me Noel, who’d responsible if they ended up splashed all over the net before the couple even made it back from their honeymoon?
And… you want me to ask someone else to come along to get in my way taking pictures while I’m trying to do my job and that would make my life easier would it?
Please enlighten me Noel, as to the point of your post because I don’t see one, other than you mouthing off at my expense.
Well Noel… I think it’s a bit cheeky really… to quote your time wasting post.

Just a thought, but why not do it right?

    hire an assistant
make sure your insurance covers that assistant
make sure your contract with the assistant is explicate in laying out that all images produced fall under your copyright
Make sure only your memory cards are used and drop all images on to a lap top throughout the day
make sure the agreement is in righting (normally I go with contract by implication but this is unusual in that you wish someone to sign over copyright)

Now the assistant can take some pictures, gain some experience and get paid a little and you get an assistant / second shooter. win win.

Just wondering have you checked if your assistant is covered by your insurance?

    good luck,

Almost as cheeky as demanding personal information from a poster and then mysteriosly disappearing when a similar question was posed to you.

I think it’s a reasonable request from the OP, the terms are there in black and white for all to see.

If you’re interested, you’re interested. If you’re not, you’re not.

Keep this on track. I’ve already removed one comment from this thread and will moderate others if need be.

I do not want to see this thread going in the same direction as a previous recent one in this sub-forum did !

    Thanks for your cooperation.

Hi Tag – i’ll happily be there on the day to give ya a dig out – I’ll even bring tea & sandwiches.

I’m cheap at €25 an hour + expenses. Double time after 8 if i’ve to stay for the cutting of the cake and first dance.

I’m a dab hand with reflectors, lens cleaning and holding a flash off camera. Great at jokes too to make the couple feel relaxed.
For a little bonus i’ll review your images and give you exposure tips as we proceed through the day.

    Let me know,

    cheers

To be fair to the op, there are a lot of people doing photography Fetac or BA courses who at some point will have to go out and get this type of experience with a professional photographer. They won’t be expecting to get paid, and they won’t expecting to take pictures themselves, it will purely be to see what goes on on the professional side of things. A place where they are probably going to want to end up.

I don’t think this was aimed at a lot of the very good photographers on here. People who would never have an interest in doing this stuff commercially. However in other photography forums I’ve often come across people looking for exactly this type of experience.

If the op needs someone to help, and someone needs the experience then it’s fine for both. If he ends up hiring someone you’d expect him to be hiring someone who already has experience and knows what they’re doing. Or hiring someone in a more permanent capacity where it’s worth him training them up, on the basis they’ll assist him at all his weddings. He’d be investing in training the person for future assistance.

I think you’re being unfair on Tag. Like I’ve said, I’ve often seen people (especially students) looking for this exact type of opportunity.

The offer is withdrawn – I’ll give it to my usual assistant – I cannot be arsed with this small minded bickering.

Thank you to those who have contributed positively to this thread.

I would suggest that the above is a little bit too far. I would further suggest this whole thread be taken down.
This thread and the one that Mark refers to above are not in keeping with the aims and spirit which caused the forum to be created
in the first place. The stupidity, mud slinging and childish behaviour should cease or be stamped out.

Cool down and before you post …… think !

Thanks Gerry. I’ll move the thread once the current posters have had some time to read.

Tag is free to post up looking for help and should be able to do so without fear of doing so.
Buceph is correct, something like this might be useful for someone who is on a course and would like to see what
    wedding photography is about.

I also agree with Gerry that there is no need for personal comments.

This is the 2nd thread in the business forum that has disappointingly taken a very negative route.
    I don’t want to have to read a 3rd.

    Thanks
