    Howdy Martin.

#1 and #5 for me, though I think the branch above the house in #5 could be cloned out.

They’re really dramatic, Martin, well done.

Of the first three I like various bits from each.
The first one has a good range of tones and I like the positioning of the building in the frame. What lets it down (slightly) is that the pathway/track leads the eye over to the left and out of the frame. The twiggy branch bits in the top right are a minor distraction, but should be easy enough to clone or chainsaw out ;)

The second is too contrasty and while the pathway/track is handled better the building itself isn’t given enough headroom.

Compositionally the third works best for me, the pathway/track leads you right into the image and there’s a great sense of scale and mood. Only quibbles with this would be to have had slightly more room on the right and left edges of the frame, and the verticals to be straighter.

Thanks for the feedback Tom, Podge and Mick

Mick: I like various bits of each myself. Its a hard place i found to get a good composition without having branches or something getting in the way. Will be going back for another go to see if i can improve the shot taking into account what has been said on this thread. Haven’t photographed many buildings before so I am new to this type of composition. Heading over to Arch hall in Meath this week end which is another old ruined house, will get back to Athcarne castle again hopefully in the next few weeks for another try

    Again thanks all

I though as much. I have an R72 filter myself and while I’m happy enough with the results, I do sometimes wich I had a faster shutter speed. If I want to shoot at a low ISO it can run into minutes. I don’t take enough infrared to justify converting a camera though!

I’ve never been to Poland so I think you might be confusing me with somebody else!
