The poster also has a flickr account etc…
No offence, but this is one of the oldest scams in The Internet (so called Nigerian Scam). A good admin should have heard about it…
I think that some period and minimum of activity on this board wouldn’t do any harm to the new members.
To all users – I would suggest you to use paypal when you send something abroad.Piotr,
I’m fully aware of the scams. Its also up to the seller to ensure they’re aware when selling something not the forum.
People are making assumptions here ! I suggest people let Tom and Scott deal with the sale.In 4 years someone has been caught out once. If someone wants to catch someone, they’ll do so regardless of the
number of posts or length of time they have to wait. Thanks
kickozzParticipantHi.
long story…long :)
I had exact same thing, I was (I am) selling my sigma 400mm lens and the same guy contacted me via PM (Richard) same story (hi wants to buy the lens for his son in Nigeria). So I received very interesting emails from his “BANK” Barclays saying that i need to provide them with tracking number so they can process the transaction and transfer the money. I was surprised that “THE BANK” showed some interest in his purchase. Plus i found few grammar mistakes, I tried to get in contact with “Bank” but the phone number was wrong, so I sent them an email, they answered in few minutes. This email looked like its being sent to a friend (unofficial) and lots of spelling and grammar mistakes. So I forwarded these fraud emails to Barclays and let the “Richard” know about it. I said that I will accept only PayPal. Next day hi said that he can transfer via Western Union, I agreed, but when It come to payment, I received same interesting looking email from “Wester Union” hi provided me with 9 digit money transfer number, WESTER UNION has 10. So I got a software and tracked the original emails……all emails came from one computer in Nigeria, but hi was using 5-8 servers in 5 different countries. I contacted his INTERNET provider but received no answer.
Hope it helps to anyone.
PS what was the email address hi contacted you from?
PaddysnapperParticipantI have had two tries..One on here was richardsmit001yahoo.com. …..and another picked up off Gumtree alfremarshall90gmail.com…I hope there’s no harm in me posting these! They both have one strange similarity the last letter of the name is left out on the e-mail address…Richard Smith has become smit… and Alfred Marshall has become Alfre Marshall…….I just ignored their offer. Ireland seems to be getting a bit of a bashing at the moment.
glennmcnParticipantWell I know I’d be sending a very special package to the same address in Nigeria if it was me.
