Babes in the wood….

paperdollParticipant
This is my first attempt at RAW/post-processing, and I just pressed every button in sight so perhaps a little overdone?
SteveDParticipantLovely post-processing Paperdoll! Exposure, white-balance, sharpening and contrast are all spot-on. Good to see a nicely sharpened image submitted for display, I think it is something people often forget.
In regards to composition, it might have been nice if both girls were shited to the left a little, or if you were more to the right as you shot. That would place both heads inside the boundaries of the path. Minor niggle I know.
You also had the most important ingredient….great light falling through those trees!
Good job, looks like you have this RAW thing under control! Which program do you use to convert your NEF files?
SwordieMemberNot overdone at all.
It’s a lovely shot, good balance of tones, nice lighting. Beautiful.
Possibly could be darkened slightly at the top to draw the eye downwards. But this is just a niggle!
Are these your two little darlings?paperdollParticipantThanks Steve and Swordie, I’ve admired both your photos on this site, so I’m actually blushing with pride here! !
I took this yesterday afternoon in the Botanic Gardens (where else). I had a frustrating afternoon trying to get a decent shot, and when I looked at the shots later on I discovered all the ones I really tried hard on where crap, whereas the ones where I just quickly saw something then photographed where much better…. In otherwords, all my throw-away shots where the ones I was pleased with! Does anyone else ever find this?I import my photos into iphoto on the mac and then convert in Photoshop CS2.
And yes, the are my little darlings (and they are little darlings!)
Mick451ParticipantThat’s a very good shot, paperdoll, lots of loverly crisp detail.
I agree with Steve about the minor niggle of getting both girls heads within the boundary of the path, it’d just isolate them better.
One other thing might also be to shoot from a slightly lower angle, not much though, just enough to perhaps see more of the bottom of tree trunks on the left so you can see them repeat off into the distance. All minor niggles, looking forward to seeing moire of your photos.paperdollParticipantThanks for the tips Mick.
If I was being fair I would have given a nod to your Phoenix Park image, which was kind of where I got the inspiration for this one! So thanks again! :wink:deSuinParticipantAlthough i?m not a great fan of over editing i think you’ve brought out the best of what there is to see., especially if you cast your eyes to the distance horizon (almost dead centre) and take a step back from it, your peripheral vision will do the rest for you.
Well done paperdoll
deSuinMick451ParticipantWe all get inspiration from somewhere, Paperdoll. I’d seen a few images on Flickr taken with a view down two long lines of trees, though with no people, and told myself I’d have to take a similar shot. Just got lucky that two people were walking in the right place at the right distance.
LoGillParticipantVery handy (and cute) little models to have around :)
Its a lovely shot – Lighting is lurvly and I did feel a lower angle would help. I hadn’t noticed the head not being in the line of the path so I guess thats a good tip for more than you paperdoll.. nice work.

AnonymousParticipantWell done Paperdoll, excellent post! Best so far from you to date :) . Only advise i would offer is when working with anything smaller than yourself ie:children, pets etc is to get down to their level as perspective is dramatically improved! Since they are sisters i would like to see them holding hands and maybe skiping together away from where youre standing, just a thought. :)
BenpaperdollParticipantThanks for the tips and the praise everyone. I honestly wasn’t expecting such a positive response – beginners luck I guess! I’d better try and keep my standard up……. :)
RobMemberTerrific shot there Paperdoll, and nothing more to add to what’s already been said here. Love it. Well done.
Rob.
paperdollParticipantCiaraParticipantWell it looks gorgeous to me and I see no faults because I dont know anything.
Great picture !AliParticipantSaw this couple of days ago but was too busy to get around to commenting. You should be chuffed with this one. Gorgeous light, colours, composition.
I like the angle you’ve shot it at as it’s not intrusive in any way – it’s more narrative! If that makes sense. Very nice shot paperdoll. You should
play around with some presentation ideas for your shots. A Border would finish this off nicely.
