What do people think? As yet no editing done. Thinking of getting it framed as an enlargment. Would it be better in B/W?

Nice picture, the face is well focussed. Not sure if it needs a BW conversion but would be nice to see if it works out. Where did you take it?
    Should look nice in print.

Very nice. The face is so detailed that the eyes seem full of expression. No expert but I don’t think b/w. The colour subleties of his fur coat might be lost.

Im still learning. His face in the photo is well focussed and the rest of the photo is a but out of focus. this is due to a narrow depth of field yes???

I used a 70-300mm lense as I didnt want to be in the seals faces taking shots. This shot I think was taken at the longest focal length, is this why the depth of field is so narrow. If for instance I had used a shorter focal length or a different lense liek a portrait lense and gotten really in the seals face would I have gottan a similar shot but with a much greater depth of field?

Still learning? Give it up quick, before you make a total show of the rest of us :-)

Yes, it’s the long lens that gave you the shallow DOF, but you can make it bigger if you tighten down the apperture of the lens. You shot that at 210 mm at F5. If you set it to F8 or F16, you would have seen a larger DOF, but that’s not always a good thing.

Or, if you had used a shoter focal length and got closer, you would have a larger DOF.

    Nice shot though!
