Backpack for equipment

I am looking for a backpack for my equipment and have a shortlist of a Kata R103 or Lowepro Vertex 200AW.

I have a Lowepro Orion but is not big enough, so need an upgrade, I like the look of the Kata, as it has a detachable weather cover, plus a zipper that allows you to access just your camera

Does anybody have either of these backpacks, or recommend an alternative?

    Cheers Steve

    One alternative-

    I have the ‘Medium’ version-

    Good protection,
and seems well sorted as a backpack-
and although I don’t have much experience of such things,
I’ve been for a few long walks with it,
    and its very comfortable-

I use a Tamrac Expedition 7 on those rare occasions when I need a backpack, but to be honest, I find backpacks to be a real PITA and prefer to work out of my 12 year old Domke F2 (what a great bag that has proven to be).

I have a vertex 200 aw. it is fantastic. my main problem with it is the fact i can fit too much in and therefore it weighs a ton. also it might be slightly big for carry on a plane

I also have a stormcase which is a pull along, this takes plenty kit and is a great stool for extra height

I couldn’t believe the overall size and shape of the Vertex 200AW – the straps themselves (particularly the waist straps) were so big that I thought it would be a job to lay the thing down flat on the ground. It was definitely no use to me, and I returned it having to pay post both ways unfortunately. Expensive lesson learnt, but unlesss someone has them on display you have no option but to order blind!

its the one thing i dont like about the vertex is the waist straps

the last backpack i had, you could remove the waist straps this one you cant

ross what do you mean about the size and shape. i like the shape as its really rectangular and has tons of space for kit (if anything too much kit) the thing weighs a ton when i have it full.

I suppose I am referring to the overall shape, including the bloody bulky waiststraps which just ruined it. The interior was perfect for my needs, but if the waiststraps were not there I would have kept it.
