Just my opinion, but I’d be tempted to crop both these shot to letterbox format, eliminating the
land behind altogether. For me, this aspect does nothing for either image and seems surplus to
requirements. I’d just prefer the isolation of the vessels in the water.
Nice too that they’re travelling into the frame from the right instead of the left.

Beg your pardon. They are taken from the cliffs near to Howth, Dublin … the land in the background is Ireland’s Eye (if I’m right). Took them today as there was a lot of sun! Nikon d200, nikkor 300 at f/8, iso 100.. handheld (as my tripod is somewhere between Birmingham and Dublin in the endless space)

Agreed about the crop, it was the first thing I thought of when i looked at them.
You should definately crop them in letterbox, eliminating the land!
