Bales in the Moonlight
-
Gary McParlandParticipant
Went out the other night looking for Bales to shoot at sunset. Found this field not far from Dundalk. The sunset was ok but the full moon came out after. Would like opinions good or bad as im not 100% about this one.
Thanks for looking :)

markclehaneParticipantThat’s a refreshing change to the usual view of this subject :D. The only thing not working for me is the fact that there are 2 bales. I think this is a classic example of needing to include odd numbers of something in an image.Possibly, A slight crop at the bottom would help as well? Apart from that, it gets the thumbs up from me. If you don’t mind me asking – was this done with just one exposure?
LWheelerParticipantI like the fact that it is different from a lot of the other bale photographs, in that is has the inclusion of the moon instead of the sun, but I am not sure about the bales being square (obviously not something that you can help) – I think that circular bales might have worked better.
I also feel that the hill has cut the photograph off, and I am continually wondering what was over the hill, instead of what is included in the photograph…… (if that makes any sense).
Overall though I think that it is a good photograph but if being really honest, I feel that your other work is of such a very high standard, that this photograph doesn’t quite get to their level.

eunified61ParticipantI’m not an expert ….but I like to take night shots, the one thing I try to avoid is having the photo turn out like daylight, for me there is too much light and the light is coming from the opposite direction to the moon with moonlight shots I try to avoid including the moon I posted a shot under “milford in moonlight” have a look see what you think
sirvadMemberIts a nice image, but i too find it looking more like daytime shot than a night time one. Dont know if theres anything ya can do to tweak it. Maybe darken the sky. Still a nice shot though
Gary McParlandParticipantThanks for the constructive comments everyone, pretty much echoes what i was thinking myself. I think its a case of try again with this one.
Cheers
