Farmer with His Schtick
Things I learned at the Ballinasloe Horse Fair…
1. Everyone needs a good schtick of some description.
2. You don’t need a lead for a dog, just a bit of blue rope.MartinParticipantTwo nice shots. The Ballinasloe Horse Fair is a great place, was at it in 2007 and really enjoyed it. You see some great characters at it and is great fun for photography. There are lots of other fairs in ireland which are great also, if you can get around to them I would. Were very lucky to still have these fairs alive and kicking in Ireland. Have a few picks from my day out at the Ballinasloe Horse Fair in the street section of my web site if your interested

bingbongbiddleyParticipantThanks for commenting Martin.
Yeah, I saw your shots on the site last year. You helped inspire me to go down in fact. Did you make it down yourself this year.
It’s good craic alright, will definitely head down again next year.
What’s the next fair on the calender so? When’s the puck fair?
Alan
MartinParticipantPuck fair is on around the middle of August, well worth a visit, if you enjoyed the Ballinasloe you will enjoy the Puck. Same type of characters at it
As for next year. The definite ones are below but hope to find two others I have not been at before and go along. if anyone knows of others let me know
-Irish Steam Rally, Stradbally, Co Laois
-Laytown Races
-Back to the Puck and Balinasloe as it will have been two years
-Trim hay making festival again which is great but want to try to get better pics this timeM
GfoxParticipantThese type of festivals are excellent people usually dont mind the camera..
If you want to practise get yourself down to the Smithfield horse market, its on the first sunday of every month… You can see some shots in my flickr..bingbongbiddleyParticipantI was actually looking at your flickr pictures the other day, Gary. I want to go down to the Smithfield Horse Fair some day. Meant to go at the start of December but didn’t get the chance and probably won’t be down on the first Sunday in January either with New Year’s and what have you, so I guess it’ll be February at least before I get down there.
I believe there’s also a Smithfield fruit and veg market? Forget where I read that, maybe on this site in the topic about places to photograph in Dublin.
Liam2673ParticipantI like the first particularly, and its a good title too, and while the second mightn’t be as aesthetic, you’ve certainly captured his considerable girth very well. Would be nice to see a few more, make a series of it, perhaps include a few horses too!….
CooksterParticipantHave you any pictures of either of these two on a horse? Now that I’d pay to see!
There’s something not quite right about the first one. The background colours or brightness pull me away from this characters face, also looks like a piece of riding tackle on his left arm. The difficulty with any life situation is they rarely do what you want, I’d say those eyes tell a remarkable story. If he had been more square on to you maybe.
Nice combination just the same
