I’m not sure Andy.
This is one from my archives – haven’t ventured that far round the last few times I’ve been down at Ballintoy.
Surely the issue would have been resolved by now?
Great work Stephen – the imbalance of light and the almost reflective quality of the arch work great. The water is well balanced too – not milky but still definition in the movement.
The best from you for quite a while, in my opinion.
I want to like it but I can’t. The composition is just not right for me. I can’t help but feel that the foreground is missing a defining rock, or something along those lines, to lead you into the picture. Lots of water in the foreground, points of interest towards the background but nothing linking them up. Cropping it from about 70% upwards improves it a lot for me.
Looking at the cliffs on the LHS it seems like filter usage is evident as they are very dark towards the top. I could be wrong on this.. have been in the past.. could be just shadow.
Sorry Steven, I usually very much enjoy your work, but this one doesn’t work for me compositionally.
Thanks Alan & J.
J – appreciate your honest critique. Yes, an ND Grad was used to try and keep the highlights in the sky from blowing out – I did try and dodge a little detail back into the shadows on the cliff but felt it just looked too un-natural & started to form a halo.
