I am looking for some basic advice to think of when shooting promotional pictures of a band. This would be styled/posed shots rather than those on stage/live.
What sort of things should I be thinking about?
Should I be thinking more about an interesting location/props that the band can utilise to make the shots more interesting as opposed to purely thinking about the technical elements of capturing the shot?
Lot of light and a lowish aperture? Enough to keep all memebers sharp I presume
Have a Canon 550D, 17-55IS, 50mm 1:8 and a Sigma 10-20mm which i can get a lend of.
Have been looking through magazines and through the net at similiar pictures of bands of similiar genres. Have a few bands lined up as part of a you scratch my back i scratch yours scenario to cut my teeth on.
Also toying the idea of buying a flash before the shoot, mainly the Yogono YN-468 as suggested in another thread. I figured this would be valuable tool anyway but may advantageous to have for this.
Would like to help but need more details. It sounds like you have the proper gear for a group shot. Speedlight might be an advantage on the other hand if you only learning to light with strobes this might be more of a challange. Getting technicals might be sometimes less important than a great concept. I would focus on the latter.
I sometimes use YN-460 II for my work so fire away if you have any questions.
