Band shooting and flash advices

A couple of points to consider:
Try and time your shots so that there is some green or yellow stage lighting on. If you get, say, blue lighting, there aren’t enough “buckets” on your sensor that will collect the light (25% = Red, 50% = Green, 25% = Blue).
Set your camera to the exposure that you want, then turn down the iso a stop and set exposure compensation to -1. By the time you get to the higher ISOs, you’re really only boosting the signal, in the same way as boosting in Photoshop later, doing the above will hold some of the highlights better but make little difference to noise. They’ll look a bit dark on the camera but that’s fine. This trick also works well in wedding shots at high contrast, say the shot in the church where the light is streaming through a window.

    Have fun

as noted above usually high iso large aperture, good to use exposure compensation, depending on the ld in the venue you could ask nicely if they could add some extra front cover for the first 15 mins or so in order to get some shots without need for high iso, instead of tri pod try a mono pod, if you’re going to use flash it’s normally good thing to ask beforehand. haven’t been near flickr since setting up account but have a few holga gig shots on there, knew the bands so got away with using flash. will add more in the coming days.
