There’s a thread full of posh guitars here-
    reminded me of this one-

Unfortunately, this one isn’t for the collector-
The strings look out of line too-

I must try this one in colour-
I keep seeing faces in it…

Edit- I just thought of a better title-
and, you know, if they can get away with making portraits of cars, well…

    ……bigger…

What’s the difference between a banjo and an onion?
No one cries when you cut up a banjo.
    uzzie?
An uzzie only repeats forty times.
    chain saw?
A chain saw has a dynamic range. …and/or…
You can turn a chainsaw off.
    Harley Davidson motorcycle?
    You can tune a Harley.
    trampoline?
You take your shoes off to jump on a trampoline.

Playing the banjo is a lot like throwing a javelin blindfolded: you don’t have to be very good to get people’s attention.

What do you say to the banjo player in the three piece suit?
    “Will the defendant please rise.”

What do you get when you throw a banjo and an accordion off the Empire State Building?
    Who cares?

What do you call twenty-five banjos up to their necks in sand?
    Not enough sand.

What do you call one-hundred banjos at the bottom of the ocean?
    A good start.

What did the banjo player get on his IQ (or SAT) test?
    Drool.

Why do some people take an instant aversion to banjo players?
It saves time in the long run.

What will you never say about a banjo player?
    That’s the banjo player’s porsche.

Banjo players are a lot like sharks: they think they have to keep playing or they will sink.

How can you tell the difference between all the banjo songs?
By their names. (originally, “Irish fiddle tunes”)

The sixth fret on a banjo is a lot like the thirteenth floor on a building: you don’t really need one.

One or the musicians: What ‘s the definition of a minor 2nd? Two Banjo players playing the same note.

well pity the poor banjo player is right-

A full range of jokes there, from Drummer to Lawyer,
    and everything in between-

    Did I mention Canon/Nikon, mac/pc ?

I’ve heard some excellent banjo playing in my time,
and always accompanied by some excellent beer, coincidentally-

    This banjo doesn’t get played;
I don’t even know if its playable-
I don’t know if you can tell that from the photograph-

    cheers-

Ach, heard ’em all before, the best ones are all reserved for drummers though…
Ye know, the ones who don’t actually know what notes are…

I’ve heard a few good banjo players in my time too Joseph, and sober at
that. The Countryman is a pretty decent beginner’s tenor banjo, and I’d imagine
this one would be perfectly playable with a change of strings.

As for the picture, I don’t really know to be honest. I like the viewpoint from
headstock to shell, the reflection, and the shadow of the strings on the skin, but it all seems
a little bright to me. Perhaps colour might be better…

    Those faces, anyone we know?

    Rob.

Reminds me of when I used to jam with this drummer. He was pretty good and we always had a good session but we jammed with a few lads from a music school once an they were asking him what he tunes his drums too and sat there looking blank faced. Was pretty funny…. well I thought so anyways.

    Cheers Rob-
its only one face, but it changes-

I think its a bear- or some kinda ape-
His cheeks are the reflection of the shell…
but its those little bright eyes that get me-

I know what you mean about the brightness-
this is from the film again,
    and another focus exercise-

This is a rough dirty scan, highly compressed, but bigger-

Thanks for the comments, and yours too, Irishagua-

…it might as easily have been a banjo landscape…

Bigger is definitely better, hardly funny at all, and I can
make out a lot more detail, right down to the dust on the
    headstock…

Oddly enough, I quite like the look of this upside down,
though it hurts my neck somewhat…

    Nice work jb…

    Cheers Rob-
it just wasn’t making sense smaller-

There’s no point in doing anything much with these scans,
they all suffer from the Newton’s rings-

though I might re-shoot with a better instrument-
