I think it’s actually a bit of an overall analysis.
United got it wrong on the night… if they played again next week with their best players on the pitch, in their correct positions, in their best formation and playing the way United usually do then it is quite possible they would win… or at the very least put on a better performance.
Everything was wrong on the night… it seems United played to stop Barca, worrying about what Barca might do instead of concentrating on what United are best at. It’s not that they didn’t play as a team, the tactics and lineup were so poor it just made United look really, really bad because they weren’t doing what they do best.
They lost the game, terrible performance, Fergie got it wrong… bad tactics, bad lineup. Anderson and Giggs were lost at sea, I never rated Carrick, Park wasn’t up to much, Ronaldo can’t be much of an influence when the team was design to contain, Rooney on the left wing… please.
United lost the game in midfield… but just because they lose one game doesn’t mean there’s a deeper crisis.
There’s nothing more to it than that… United aren’t in decline, there’s no major crisis, Berbatov and Tevez might be gone in the summer and United will roll on, replace them and go out and challenge on all fronts again next year.
When Fergie finally retires… that’s when I think that United may possibly go into decline, depending on who takes over the job.
And I’m not even a United fan… just calling it as I see it. One game lost… to a very good side… but a very beatable side too.
