Beauty amongst the St Patrick’s Day Crowd.
-
Not Pete the blokeParticipant
This was one of my favourite shots from yesterday – I wish it was more in focus….
The crowd in the background was considerably over exposed in the original shot, so I combined 2 versions of the RAW file – one developed for the subject, and one developed for the background crowd.A mono version with a different crop:

I have to say I prefer the original crop – the space, and the crowd
filling it, give the image some context. And in or out of focus, your subject
stands out. A well titled image considering such an extraordinarily
beautiful woman. Definitely better in colour too. Sometimes an image
doesn’t have to be technically perfect to work. This is a case in point.
Nice work.Rob.

These were in Belfast. You can see more at http://flickr.com/photos/rossomck/sets/72157600005128872/
or at http://www.pbase.com/rossomck/st_patricks_day_paradePeteTheBlokeMemberThis is good Ross. I bet you were chuffed with the detail you lifted from the RAW file?
Some of these non-Irish ladies are really gorgeous chicks (to burlesque certain other forum users – not saying she’s not Irish like, maybe she is).

Not Pete the blokeParticipantI have never been a fan of photos with part colour/part mono, but after seeing a similar image on FlickR today, I thought this photo could work with that effect. This is the first time I have ever done this, so any c&c welcome on whether it works or not. My own thinking was that this version emphasises how much she stood out in the crowd. Better shut up in case my wife starts thinking I fancy her…….

Which you don’t, of course. All those wicked thoughts disappear the minute we get married.
GrahamBParticipantI love the first shot. I’m not sure it needs the edits to be honest.
I think the image is strong enough on it’s own without the edits.geraldParticipantgreat minds and all that… as i was browsing down the pics and comments i was thinking it would be best in a combo of colour and B&W and then low and behold as if by magic there it was .. gets my 10 out of 10 just for the telepathy alone… great
united4meMemberExpresbroParticipantWhatever the thoughts on the merits or not of selective colouring..I have to say you did a great job on this. Right down to the gaps between her earrings..looks pretty flawless to me. I’ve seen other images similar to this and there are usually tell tale signs or overlooked little sections of colour, but I can’t find any on this…(I tried ..honest!!).
Is this very painstaking stuff to do Ross? Or is there a secret I don’t know about yet? :D
