Not wanting to sound preachy…but the best advice I could give you is to hang around here…read through the different forums, post your pics and learn from the critiques and responses. You’ll see improvements very quickly.

Welcome to PI btw Lee :D

Robbie is right and don’t be afraid to ask lots of questions even if they seem very basic.

I’m still learning about digital SLRs as well. However, things that I have found that might trip you up at first – specifically with digital SLRs and that are a bit different from film SLRs and point & shoot digital cameras:

    white balance
    auto ISO
    dust on the sensor
the liveview screen flattering your shots – especially if there is movement blur
    any others?

Things that are different and you will get to know about:
    file size
    shooting in RAW
    shooting in JPEG and RAW
post-processing, i.e. on your computer after taking the shot, e.g. with photoshop
    any others?

Try different types of photography until you find teh ones that interest you. There seems to be a mountain of interest in landscape photography on thsi site. Now, why could that be? …

But as Expressbro said, read the posts, contribute a bit, learn – and enjoy.
