Can anyone help me out with this problem I’m having…
Camera is a 10D I have 2 lenes one of which is is giving me an error99 when I use it, it’s a Sigma 70-300mm 1:4-5.6 DL (dia.58mm), when I’m indoors the lens + camera works in manual & AF modes, but I head outside with the lens + camera it gives me an error99 either in manual or AF mode, I looked around online for info on the lens couldn’t find anything other than a macro ver., I know it an old(ish) lens it came off of a EOS500 film camera the other lens a Canon EF 35-80 1:4-5.6 II works fine on the D10, both lenes work on the EOS500.
Also the error99 I’ve tired to do things like cleaning the contacts, lens on then take the battery out then battery in turn on camera etc etc none of which has given me any joy.
Is it just the lens is old and not configured to work on the 10D body ?

You mean a Canon 10d instead of a D10 ya ?
yep   10D
photosMemberI’m open to correction but its possible your lens is designed to perform with film cameras – and the digi cant cope….. not 100% if this is correct but you say that the lens is old…so it might be a feasable excuse.
EDIT: Had a quick look …. the DC and DX models are designed for Digital cameras – cant find anything on “DL” …so could have been for film.
ShleedMemberSigma lenses tend to be flaky on what camera they use. Might need to get it re-chipped.
miki gParticipantI could be mistaken, but I thought I read a thread here some time ago about the same error message and it was something to do with autofocus. Could be totally wrong though. :?
davekeoghParticipantBMParticipantYour film Sigma lenses won’t work with digital Canons. Sigma UK was giving reasonably generous trade-in allowances.
cathaldParticipantI have the same lens and get the same message from time to time
I give the contact points a wee wipe and it seems to work ok
Also I have heard a few people who have this lens get the same problem
for the value of the lens I did not send it off to get fixed as a repair will
be alot more than the lens is worthCathal
