Beginner and Newbie Canon 400d or 1000d

For a total novice, which would you get?

They look fairly similar in spec to me. Does the 1000 replace the 400?

Re Canon cameras.
The 400D was replaced by the 450D

The 1000D is a new model priced lower than the 450D and lower spec
That being said, it still compares favourably with the now discontinued 400D

Can’t be any more specific as I am using the 40D but I think you will get good results from the 1000D

Hubby is after buying me the 1000d for Christmas and I can’t wait to start using.
