i was thinking of canon 1000d or canon 500d but it is about 190 euro more to buy, also see the nikon D3100 which i heard were a good camera also, the photos i would be mainly be taken would be landscapes and family photos,i have a lot to learn so could with some help :?: thanksSeaviewParticipantEugene, firstly welcome to the site, I’m sure you will enjoy your time here. Now to your question, the best thing to do to make up your mind is go into a shop and try each one. They’re all good cameras so it often depends on what it feels like in your hands. Alternatively you could have a look at the for sale section on the site and pick up a good camera for great price. I have attached a link below to a camera which is for sale at the moment. Keep an eye on this section as some great bargains come up from time to time.

miki gParticipantHi Eugene123.
Welcome to the site. As Dave said, try out the cameras that you fancy to see how they feel in your hands & pick the one that’s most comfortable to use. A kit lens will be a good starter lens & should cover enough range for landscapes & family shots (possibly an 18-55mm). Good luck with your choice.MartyMooreParticipantI have the canon 1000d and its great . I have used it for a year but will me upgrading it now so if your intrested in buying one i have mine second hand with the standard kit lens and tripod
LovelifeParticipantHey Eugene, welcome, im new to the site myself, i joined in November but never got on for some posting untill now, personal reasons and such.
Both cameras you listed are great cameras, i was debating only recently between the two for underwater photography. The 1000D was my first choice but when i couldnt get a good branded housing for it i had to go with the 500D. Both are great cameras, but the 500D is newer. As far as i know the only major difference is movie recorder. So if your looking for a good camera for taking great shots and arent worried about shooting video, perhaps you should try the 1000D.
But like the rest of the people said, go in and hold each one, in fact ask to try them out and see which one you feel most comfortable with. The right camera will choose you :)

LovelifeParticipantI also researched (still debating over 500D trying to get other suggestions for underwater DSLR housings :)) that the battery life on the 500D is not amazing, due to the video recorder.
Again,
I hope this helps,
Lovelife
