A shot taken of my son at the kitchen table before he was “too cool” to pose.
Taken on a Mamiya C220 TLR, using window light & guesswork – hence the slight blown out areas. Scanned using an epson 4800 scanner and no alterations apart from crop from a square image, and desaturation. DOF was a bit shallow, but I like the slightly soft feel to it.
When he’s bouncing off the ceilings impersonating his WWE heroes I like to think of this shot, when he was a quiet little soul !!!!
All comments etc. appreciated.
Regards
Kevin
LoGillParticipantKevin .. He seems like a handful !!! I love that :D
I think this is a gorgeous shot – really love the expression and those eyes … just love them
Its a smidge on the grey side, but you could correct that in PS no problem.. Lovely lovey shot :)L
ciaranParticipantWhat great eyes and great expression. Content trumps technique every time and the content here is great.
Technique isn’t so bad either, you’ve done really well with the exposure, ensuring you’ve kept detail in the highlights. However the down side is that the rest of the shot is a little flat. A quick contrast boost in PS would really make this already great shot a whole lot better.
stuttterMemberreally excellent shot
he looks old beyond his years. maybe it’s his hair style but it gives it a 50s flavour
ThorstenMemberThat’s definitely one to pull out for the wedding speeches when he gets married!
Not Pete the blokeParticipantMy one little point is that I would have preferred his chin to be more dominant than the sleeve (if you get me) – bring the head forward/up or the sleeve back/down a bit? The brightness of the sleeve on the lower left of the shot tends to distract or dominate a little imho.

I added a highlight in the right eye to match the one in the left, and also whitened the whites of the eye a little; burnt in the lower left sleeve a bit; boosted contrast.
Your profile does not say whether you mind people retouching your images, so please tell me if you prefer me not to display this, and I will delete it immediately.Ross
KPMParticipantThanks for all the comments, as you’ve probably guessed I’m not that hot with PS. That is usually why I post images relatively unprocessed, so I can learn from the experienced PS users.
Ciaran, thanks for the PM, love the version you did, as I am working off elements I don’t have levels adjustment, but apparently elements 5 has it.
Ross, I really like your version as well, I should have said that editing is no problem. I’ill change my profile.
I’ill really have to get a bit of training on PS.

RobMemberGorgeous shot Kevin, and Ross’s edit has really brought up the contrast. Would be nice to see Ciaran’s edit also. A great portrait, one to treasure.

Here’s my quick edit.
RobMemberVery nice edit Ciaran. I like the way you’ve increased the light on the left of the image and brought more sharpness and detail to the mouth area. I’ve only just noticed now that Ross’s framing seems to have cropped pixels from all sides, most noticeably at the top of the frame. Great to see different approaches to post-processing a single image like that; a great reminder that there’s always so much more one can hope to learn. A beautiful original image and two superb edits.

Mick451ParticipantLovely shot, and great expression on Ben’s face. Hope you don’t mind, but I’ve done a version with a bit of a tint to it.
