Best place to get Photographic equipment in New York?
-
technics100Member
I heading to New York in 7 weeks and am looking to upgrade my camera equipment. I will probably be buying a Nikon D80 and 2 No. Nikon 18-200mm Lens (one for the father in law)
Does anyone know the best / cheapest place to get camera equipment?
Also is there any chance of bartering with the price? considering I will be spending $2500 ?
Cheers
spudMemberim also heading to NY soon 4 april. ive been told B&H are realy good they have a site u should check out, done a google dor some and found this result, check out there sites :)
ossie13ParticipantHi
Was in NY last November and the previous year, on both occasions bought gear from B&H, would highly recommend very knowledgable and friendly staff, and you can try out any equipment before you purchase!
This is a great store over 2 floors, on my last visit there was a lot of renovation work going on, my tip is to get there for opening time(as it gets very busy later in the day, also as its a Jewish run shop its closed on Saturdays)
No bartering but with such a strong Euro you will get a good deal!!
Enjoy NY great city for photos!!
Cheers Steve
insertnamehereParticipantI’ve not been there, but apparently B&H is the place to go.
plainoldmeMemberIm heading over there soon too! (next week actually!) plan to get stuff myself. and it definitely is the best place to go. I know people over there, and thats where they get all their stuff too! Just watch out, cause it is a Jewish store, and it is closed some days!!! So you should check that out before you go! and watch out for customs on the way back. Have fun, i know i will :D
guthrijParticipantAdorama are great to deal with. Closed Staurday.

joe_elwayParticipantThink B&H closes at sunset on Fridys. It’s by far got the best reputation. Steer clear of Crooklyn.
FintanParticipantDon’t overlook Photo Village, email them in advance [Rich is the guys name] to check stock, you may be able to haggle discount with cash, they almost always will be cheaper than B&H
technics100MemberThanks guys, I had seen B&H photo and they seem to be the cheapest, although I have found http://www.cameralandny.com which is about 2 blocks from my Hotel, they are the same price as B&H, so will give them a go. As I want to get the camera bought as soon as I get there so I can start snapping.. Cheers
plainoldmeMemberHey guys,
I just got back from NY myself. Got a Nikon D80 with a 18-135mm 3.5/5.6 with filters, camera bag, and two extra memory cards for 750 euro!!!!! I went to B&H, and it was well worth it. If you’re going there they’re open until 7 mon-thurs, close at 4 on fridays, and 1 on saturdays!
ImagineParticipantBHPhoto BHPhoto BHPhoto.
