Best shop to buy photo supplies??
-
orozcoParticipant
Hello everyone! :D
I will be in Dublin soon and was wondering where is the best shop to purchase film and fiber base paper?? I shoot 120 Ilford 3200, Fuji Pro 800Z and Fuji Neo Pan 400 . What are the prices like there??? Here in the states I get:
Ilford 3200 for $5 per roll
Fuji Neopan for $3 per roll
Fuji 800Z for $4 per roll
What about the fiber paper and chemistry?? Do you guys have Forte or Bergger?? Zonal Pro developer, Ilford Microphen, sepia toner and most importantly Lith developer ( here is use Arista Liquidlith A/B Developer 1 Quart) What is the best Lith developer yous carry???
I will be bring loads of film with me on the plane but what about the chemistry… should I ship it? or would I not have any problems getting what I need in Dublin???
Any help is greatly appreciated!
CHEERS!
Liza:D
ben4130ParticipantGunns on wexford Street in Dublin has a good range of film and chemistry. Thats where alot of people go for their needs and they usually the cheapest. If you cannot get what you are looking for in Dublin you can usually mail order from the UK from Ilford or some other specialist shop.
orozcoParticipantCheers! Thanx for the info!!
Does anyone here ever over from B & H in New York?? I just saw there that they deliver to Ireland.
Cheers!
EddieParticipantyou would get a lot better value at home so I would bring whatever film you can with you. Gunns have a good stock of paper but its mainly Ilford warmtone amd Multigrade in Fibre and some Lith generally Fotospeed. If you are going to be here for a while you could get in in from the UK Silverprint is one of the best suppliers ad will have everything on your list but postage is expensive from UK to Ireland. One large order might be your best option. Chemicals here are also limited to Ilford and Fotospeed.
ben4130ParticipantI have ordered from B+H but you are almost guaranteed to get hit with taxes and VAT. I guess silverprint may be your best bet for chemistry and paper. But if you dont mind paying a little extra then B+H is all good.
orozcoParticipantYea, I’m gonna bring loads of film with me for sure. I heard if the package is sent as a gift then they cant charge you taxes?? Is that true?? hhmmmmm So I should just have a friend in the states do the shopping and then ship it… it should be cheaper. I’m sure ordering from the UK is expensive… they are on the sterling right?? I know the sterling is worth double compared to the dollar. What about the Euro to Sterling?? what is the transfer rate???
Part of me is starting to think its better to just have a digital so I dont have to worry about all this stuff…
Thanx Ben and Eddie!!!
Cheers! :D
ben4130ParticipantYeah you can send it as a gift and 90% chance you wont be charged taxes, just make sure the post office will allow you to send the chemistry.
A good currency exchange rate website is http://www.xe.com you can do all sorts of comparisons there.
But normally ordering from the uk will be cheaper than buying from dublin if you buy in bulk.
But if you can get the stuff from the states that will be your best bet.FintanParticipantThats a very nice shopping list there Liza
If I was you I would make an order from http://www.silverprint.co.uk to your Dublin address.

orozcoParticipantCheers for that link Fintan… This is what it says about shipping chemicals.
“We regret we are unable to send chemicals, both raw chemicals and manufactured products to destinations outside the UK.”
Does that include the Republic of Ireland??
thanx!

Does that include the Republic of Ireland??I received Agfa Rodinal from them on Friday through the post no problem. Ordered developers 3 times with them now with no problem. When ordering I ordered a good few things so they just put the developer in with the rest of the order….

Hey Martin… it also says a min. order of 100 sterling… is that not true??? What is the general postal charge???
Cheers for the info! :)
FintanParticipantthe postage is 15 sterling.
we often club together when buying stuff to get over the 100 sterling minimum order, which can be inconvenient at times but i’m like a child in a sweetshop in that place so finding stuff to buy is never a problem
