Bet Here

Stupid goram work, I have a solid month’s worth of shots just sitting on my laptop waiting to be looked over. Anyway, here’s one of the handful of shots that actually made it as far as my flickr account. Please, feel free to tear it to shreds, I do however reserve the right to huddle in a corner clutching what remains of my self esteem when this all over.

S-ManMemberMartinParticipantDon’t know much about street photography but for whats it worth these are my comments
I can see what you were trying to do. I think to get this shot to work you would need to get up close to the two guys (probably not possible) with say a wide angle lens and maybe have the two guys taking up most of the frame with the Bet Here sign in the back ground. Possibly a black and white conversion also, Just my two cents worth don’t go huddling into a corner now cause I am more of a landscape photography person so I might not know what I am talking about:-)

earthairfireParticipantNice concept, and a ton of potential for this image. Well spotted!
Personally, I’d crop the top to just above the garage door. I’d also straighten up for horizontals, at the garage is on a bit of a tilt at the mo. The main draw of the image is the 2 guys, but there seems to be a lack of detail in there due to the high contrast scene – you can probably bring a fair amount of this out in post processing, along with a little saturation boost and some sharpening.
Just me 2c worth – hope it helps!

cian.m.hayesParticipantThis was a real hit and run job so I agree, a nice tight shot with the frame just in the
I think the suggestion of a tighter crop is a good one, I think it could really help the image. I’ll try and bring out more detail in the three guys. I’m not sure about the rotation though because I think trying to get the horizontals level is a battle I can’t win, I suspect I’ll be leveling one and unleveling another, I’ll give it a go but I’m not sure how much of an improvement I can get. I had tried a black and white conversion before, well more like I started converting but it really wasn’t looking promising so I gave up, I think with a different crop black and white might work better.
Thanks a million for the constructive comments.//Cian
positronMemberThree guys? Oh I see it now – I looked at this earlier (and also attempted a quick of crop and b&w job etc too) but I only noticed two in the shot! New Task: book an appointment with optician…
cian.m.hayesParticipantI think the fact that you (Positron) and Tim both saw two guys, sums up what’s wrong with the image, now maybe I’ll manage to get home at a civilized time this evening and fix the blooming thing.
