    Hi All,
Just received this scam by email in the last while, it goes like this.

    Hello
I am Rev. Pastor Edwin Donko. District pastor of INternational Central Gospel Church, Greater Accra Region, . I got your details from the Ireland Tourism Directory, We will be coming over to Ireland, our silver jubilee wedding anniversary with family coming up on the 1st of March but we will be arriving on the 29th of February2008. I will need the service of a professional photographer that will cover our entire vacation from the 1st through to 2nd March.
Could you please send me more details about your work and what the cost of your services for the 2days coverage will be? The ICGC Ghana will be paying you in advance of our visits as they will be covering the total expense for our wedding anniversary so that we will be assured of a photographer during our stay. An early reply will be appreciated.
Please acknowledge if you can offer us your services and give me a call on my direct line +344274767779 as soon as you receive this email, so we can conclude on all other arrangements asap, as time is not really on our side.
    God Bless you

Luckily, being cautious, we googled it and found that its a long running scam. What happens is, they send you a postal order, which is way over your costs, you cash it, it takes a week to realise its a scam in the bank and in the meantime they have asked you to wire them the amount of the overpayment.
Apparently, they will call you on your phone and reply to a few of your emails, but its a full blown scam. Dont be taken in..
On that note, maybe we should have a scam’s topic from the main board?

This is a common scam. I was contacted from Buy & Sell with a similar concept – “my nephew wants your goods…my friend will pass on a cheque…pass on the excess…don’t worry, we trust you…”

Any level of alertness nowadays where someone wants to do you a favour involving money is certainly required.

BTW, wanna buy a Rolex???

If something sounds too good to be true, it generally is too good to be true.

DAMNN……. just got it this evening and thought I had a great job landed !! 2 days following a priest and his wife about and staying in posh hotels, eating like a king and drinking like a wino. Probably too good to be true LOL

Sometime when I’ve a bit more time to waste I’m gonna play along just to see what happens.

I did that, but they smelled a rat quite quickly. I brought it to the attention of the Gardai but they said a crime had not been committed yet so they couldn’t do anything about it  . The Irish Permanent had announced on local radio that this scam was going on and to watch for it and to contact the Gardai if you see it.

What a great little country…vulnerable, but great.

Dont know if any of you get the telephone calls about investments ……… Well last year I had one call me a few times and eventually I “gave in” and admitted I do make investments so sh said she’d have her Senior Manager call me back. Well he did and after giving me a load of info on a particular investment he asked if I were interested. I said yes and he said he would then have a more senior guy talk to me later. Over the next 2 to 3 days I was being called and talked to and “elevated” to more senior guys. Finally the last guy asked me how much I was willing to invest and I told him somewhere between 50 and 100. He replied that it was 50,000 to 100,000 euro was a very wise investment giving the growth potential. I then said “No, No ……….. not 50,000 to 100,000 euro ………… I mean 50 to 100 euro”. The line went dead and I’ve not heard anything since !

A mate of mine who is in the financial investments stuff with Permanent TSB told me ages ago that even they are constantly targeted and he’s amazed how many of his own colleagues have lost on these scams ……. guys who should know better. He gets the calls also so his policy is to keep them on the phone as long as possible and waste their money.

I just thought I’d take his line on that one. Anyway …… I do have to admit that I have a very mean streak in me that I always go for ultimate revenge at any cost. My family say it comes from my late mothers side as she was a woman who always shot first and then asked questions. She gave the local Parish Priest a black eye and 2 broken teeth and beat up the local NS Principal back in 1963 when the principal beat my older sister and left her with black marks at school one day.
It was not the kind of “respect” the local clergy expected in the 1960’s

    Is ‘Costello’ irish for ‘Soprano’?

Was the priest moving in on her turf or something? Or was it a vendetta?

Gang warfare in Skehanagh, now that beats all. :D :D :D
