    It’s well taken.

Unfortunately all those branches are in the way. If it’s away from the garden then I find it nearly impossible to shoot small birds. They’re too wary and will hide like this. Int he garden, the secret is a well placed feeder. Place it near trees but where light doesn’t give you bad or mixed exposures. Then place props aroudn the feeder(s) such as the typical branches or twigs that these little fellas prefer. Set up the gear and focus on those twigs instead of the feeder …. that’s how the pro’s do it, acordind to the mags I’ve read.

Aidan, thanks for the comments. This was taken as I was walking past someones house in Newcastle Co,Down on Sunday. I had heard acouple of birds and got one attempt at this one so I was very pleased with the outcome.
I will take on board the advice about the feeder hope to put one in the garden soon. I have been warned the first bit of Sh1_ on a window and I am in it. From your other post I haven’t been to the nature reserve being honest I never even knew about.
    Thanks again

Feeders are so worth it. The sound of the birds in the morning is amazing. Just make sure the feeders are pretty small (don’t go for a table) … otherwise you’ll be in seagull hell.

Wish I could put a feeder in my garden…but 5 cats make sure that no amount of fancy nuts are gonna attract too many birds our way. The only ones that brave our garden are Magpies…and they just come in to taunt the cats… But even they’ve been quiet lately…

Nice shot Soda..these little guys are hard to shoot.

Yep. We used to have one..and used to get quite a variety of birds…but then the cats adopted us..

Gain on one hand..lose on the other…
