Birds of Prey – Ailiwee Caves

Spent a good hour there today and the only reason I left was because everyone else I was with wanted to go  I could have stayed forever, beautiful birds and so friendly. Most of them are hand reared. The female American kestrel was a real sweetie and played tug of war with my camera strap, and shook my finger with her claws  I definitely recommend it and will be going back when the weather picks up and they start the demonstrations.
Snowy Owl or cat?
One of the eagles
An American Kestrel who loved getting her belly rubbed
More to come when I get the time 8)
Noely FParticipantNow they are something special, I must take a trip there sometime
Big FellaParticipantVAubreyMemberSeaviewParticipantconstantineParticipantBeautiful shots, do they have these birds on display down there? If so, is it open all year round??
MarkKeymasterBeautiful photos, very sharp !.
Meant to visit it while I was there with the PI Doolin trip. Next time….
PixelleMemberMark, not to hjack but I was reminded of another cave near Doolin
I went to visit after our PI trip.
I was talking to the guy in charge who offered to do a special opening for a group of photographers.Might be an idea for another time and/or venue though,
where we could prowl around tweaking settings and tripods etc
without getting in the way of the general populace. Or moved on by security!MeoParticipantWow they are fantastic, I absolutly love owls and that kestrel is amazing looking, now that’s a definete on my list of ‘todo’s’ for 2008!!
michelleansParticipantThanks guys,
I’m not really sure about the opening times we were just lucky to catch them open, and a big plus was that there was hardly anyonre around! I actually shot these through the large holes in the fences but they also have demonstrations. If you all decide to book a trip for photographers drop me a line :)
If you would like more info… (though the website has nothing much really googling it turns up better but still no admission times etc…)
Admission charges for 2008 (Bird of Prey Centre only): Adult – 6 Euros, Child – 5 Euros.
