I’m fascinated by the birds at my feeders.
Any recommendations for a lens? I have a 50 – 500 but would like a faster lens as I view the birds from the east (the dark side) The feeders are 2 or 3 m from the house, er, I mean hide. I have a D80.
Something like 300mm f/2.8 would be great. Cheaper? Maybe nikon 300/4 or sigma 100-300/4. With f/4 you won’t get much improvement though.

Why not try brightening up the area instead, using a reflector and and outdoor
halogen light? Your 50-500 should be able to cope then.Anything with enough reach and wider aperture will cost a couple of thousand

Maybe I’ll try some of Shutterbug’s suggestions.
