How about people might consider posting up their favourite locations for birdwatching. I have been to the Slobs outside Wexford town several times with my youngest daughter and she keeps asking where else would be worth a visit so I thought where better to find out than asking here. Another place I have gone to on occasions is at a place called Kilmichael at the Wexford/Wicklow border but after that I don’t know. Any suggestions anyone?

David, I am curious as to what exactly there is in Kilmichael? Always on the lookout myself for good bird spots.

The Saltee Islands would be worth a visit in June. I’ll probably head out myself one of the days.

There’s an old coast guard station which is converted to holiday apartments but when you walk south from there there is a great system of scrubland and sand dunes with a variety of bird and wildlife. Rabbits, hares, badgers, foxes, bramblings, larks, kestrels, various finches, terns, gulls, linnets, wrens, plus more. Interesting rock formations, the sand dunes to south, stony beaches to north. These photographs don’t do the place justice but the place is well worth a visit, particularly at dawn.

Ah yes, I’ve been there before. Can’t say I noticed a dicky bird… but I was in landscape mode at the time. Must revisit sometime.

    Thanks

It wouldn’t be like the Slobs, teeming with wildlife but any time I’ve visited with my daughter it was always worth while.

Birdwatch Ireland have taken over some of the coastline along Kilcoole/Newcastle Co Wicklow,
they are developing it (slowly) but there is a great selection of birds along that stretch, the little
artic terns nest there every year with record numbers reported last year, Brent Geese, Swans,
Herons, Egrets, the odd Kingfisher has been reported though I have never seen one down there.
Wading birds, such as Godwits, Curlews, Lapwing, Plovers etc.

If the weather is favourable it is a nice walk along the shoreline, paths of sorts to follow sometimes
the birds are a little far away but with a decent telephoto lens possible to get the odd photograph.
Skylarks aplenty, bull finch, meadow pipets etc etc.

Bring a packed lunch lie back in the sun and listen to the Skylarks…….bliss

Check out a great book by Eric dempsey called “Finding Birds in Ireland” for details on all the good birdwatching locations.
