Black and white conversions

When converting images to black and white I use photoshop. I select lab mode and delete one of the channels which creates nice depth to the image. The problem I have is that I cannot save the image then to anything other than .PSD
Ideally I would like to save for Web use and upload the images to my website.
Can anybody help me with this. Does anybody know of a way around this problem? I can only upload.IMG files to my site?

DavidChange it back to 8 bit colour, you’ll be able to save it anyway you want.

Jess, the only options available to me under Mode once my images has been processed in Lab mode with one channel deleted are multichannel, gray scale and bitmap. Cant see how to switch back to 8 bit colour?

Using this method I think that the only option that you have is to change the Mode to Grayscale. From what I have been able to see it doesn’t change the look and feel of the conversion and it will give you the option to save as a jpg etc…

Change from LAB back to RGB colour and then to 8bit.
You can then save as jpg.
when doing black and white, try and keep to 16bit, it does help with B&W.
there are sooooo many ways to do B&W, here a few
1. create new layer, fill it black, change the blending mode to colour.
2. use calculations, change the blending modes to change basically contrast. output to new document
3. lab as already discussed
4. B&W adjustment layerand lots lots more
