One from this evening taken up at White Rocks on the Antrim coast.
The light was a bit flat but I just had to try out my new Pentax 14mm prime.
The idea with this one was to define a line of symmetry through the axis of the rockpool between the curved cliff face and the curved area of rock in the near left. The foreground rock and the arch/sky therefore balance across the line of symmetry.
Always like to see your posts Andy… this is a nice shot… good foreground and lead in lines… on my laptop screen it looks like it could benefit form a touch more saturation… then again that might just be this badly calibrated powerbook…!
The light was a bit flat. I’ll definitely be back here when the light is better. I find that if the light is flat then increasing the saturation too much starts to make the image look a bit weird.
In the past, if the light was poor, I would just have left the picture for another day. But after looking at the work of Andrew Nadolski (he’s the landscape guy that shoots in flat light on negative film) I have started to see the attraction subtle colour and I don’t let flat light put me off. It’s just a case of finding the right subect. I’m not sure if this is it, but it’s a bit different to my usual colourful stuff.
Very nice Andy, very clean. Great depth and the viewer gets a nice natural progression through the scene. I’d be tempted to crop a bit more tighter at the bottom of the rock. Although the lack of space might affect the leading line. Nice work.
