Blue Ridge parkway (lots of pics.)
-
bethParticipant
these are some scenes found along the road suggested to martin. its a great drive, lots to see. i would suggest not missing the meadows since thats where all the barns are found. i’ve taken this road home from college a few times, its esp. nice in the fall, but theres a lot of cars at that time..
this cabin is found at the top of blue ridge parkway in virginia, right before it turns to shennadoah nat’l park (the blue ridge parkway is free, shennadoah park you have to pay to get into.) this cabin is in a homestead exhibit, so the land its on is set up like it would have been in that time period. employees dress in that time period and there is a small farm that is run there.
old railroad and waterfall found at a stop thats very close to the above cabin.
mabry mill found further south on brp. its also a big exhibit, expect to park along the road and walk to the exhibit instead of parking in the parking lot.. theres a walking area behind the mill that has people in time period dress working at different trades.
some sunsets, both shot on the same night appx. 10 minutes and 1 pulloff apart. shot closer to the north carolina and tennessee border.
some barns and farm equip. found in the meadows area of blue ridge parkway, the meadows is located in virginia.

MartinParticipantThanks for posting Beth, Really enjoyed looking at your pics. Now I am really looking forward to blue ridge parkway. Looks like lots to take pics of. Promise to post some when i get there. All i need now is good weather. Should be there id say by this day next week. Visiting smoky mountain national park later in the week also which should be good
Till then over and out and thanks again for the info
MartinbethParticipanttake snacks with you. places to eat are few and far between up there. shennadoah nat’l park has two lodges where you can eat, but on blue ridge parkway there aren’t that many places.. public bathrooms can be found at almost every campground on the parkway.. have fun and bring back lots of pics!
bethSANCHOMemberawesome shots beth! for all the crap America gets they sure can be proud of their landscape(even though they stole it from the natives :D) those shots of the cabin and barn are really creepy, they’d fit right in a horror movie. :)
fstop89564ParticipantpositronMemberS-ManMemberAliParticipantRobMemberI’m with Ali here. While you have some cracking shots here in the set,
the Mill shot (number 5) is an absolute stunner. Dare I suggest image of the
year so far? Anyone want to argue?
Please post this one in its own thread and take a well deserved bow.
SIMPLY BRILLIANT!!!Rob.
GrahamBParticipantjb7ParticipantLovely, lots of shots, as Rob said,
some deserve their own thread-
Particularly the Mill-j
MarkKeymasterWay to many photographs posted at once to critique. Best to split into separate posts
so that they get the attention they deserve :)bethParticipantthanks everyone.. sorry there were so many, i was posting them more for martin to see the parkway (its a long parkway) than for critiques .
my shot of mabry mill isn’t that great of a shot, theres nothing unique about it. its one of the most photographed places in the south east united states. the angle and the comp. have been done so many times.. i used dave’s midnight sepia (a photoshop action found at atncentral.com, the only one i use regularly) on mabry mill and some of the barns.
bethGrahamBParticipantDon’t sell yourself short Beth.
They really are very good shots. Will take a look at that action though, could be useful. ( edit )
steelydanParticipantMabry Mill is an excellent shot no matter what action is used.Been to Somley Mountain national park in 2003 and fell in love with it and the surrounding areas.
