That’s a nice simple composition. That was a bright day today so this wouldn’t have been easy to expose it as good as you did, at least not for me. I’m wondering if the twigs at the bottomg add or detract from the shot. Very nice conversion too. My skys always blow out when I convert. Think I need to do something more with the blues.

Oh, there’s two white spots on the lower left. I’d be tempted to clone them. They’re probably rocks or something but they’re a little distracting.

    Overall, it works for me.

Very nice Ali. Lovely conversion too. I’m impressed with
the sky you managed considering the brightness today.
Am I mistaken or is that up at Lough Ramor in Virginia,
    a favourite haunt of mine?

Aidan – thanks a million for feedback. I was wondering whether to leave the twigs in myself, tried it without and i thought the difference in texture between the water, stone and the twigs worked well. I think without it i’d probably have to crop closer to the boat. I was quite suprised at how well the exposure worked out, the sky was slightly hot but i could bring it back as i shot RAW.

Rob – Thanks :) It is indeed Lough Ramor – my first time there and i just found it by chance – the joys of an aimless drive. I actually think you’re boat is the furthest one away in my shot.

It’s a pretty nice area Ali. I’m often up around the area, at least once a fortnight. If you
want to see some pretty spectacular rolling hillside scenery, you should take a drive out
of Virginia on the Bailieborough road and come back into Carlanstown via Mullagh and
Moynalty. On a good day it’s simply breathtaking. If I could manage to take a decent
landscape I’d be spoiled for choice with the scenery up that way. Another nice drive is
the road out of Virginia towards Ballyjamesduff. Bring spare CF cards, you won’t be
    at all disappointed.

Ali, yeah it’s a nice shot alright, I love the contrast in the sky and cloud and the boats are positioned perfectly. But can I offer my critque though, to me the foreground looks a little messy, I find my eye keeps wondering down to it. I’ve tried cropping the foregroud (just by scrolling up) and it looks a much stronger image, to me at least. Something to hang on the wall me thinks.

Thanks a million all for the comments :)

Rob – Sounds like a day out, i haven’t made it around that area yet – I have 5 days Annual leave to take before the end of the month so i’ll
definitely spend a day just driving around that neck of the woods.
Brian – Looking forward to printing – i reckon i might crop it a few ways and see how it works out. Sometimes it’s hard to judge how much impact an image has on screen.
John – What’s a polariser ? No polariser, I use a combination of three things usually.
    1. A Mask on a Levels Adjustment Layer
    2. Selective Color on Cyan/Blue
    3. Masks on Multiple Exposures.
    Tim & Flipflip – Thanks a mil.
Graham – Stripped of all of my secrets :D
