Being a book lover (and having a passion for photography  ) I’d like to know which photography related books you have, guys or which ones you would have or which ones you suggest…..

    me first:
I’ve recently bought: Europeans by Henri Cartier-Bresson and Annie Leibovitz at Work by Annie Leibovitz
On my wish list (probably forever seeing the price!) The Decisive Moment by Henri Cartier Bresson, but I’ve got the on line version (also if it’s no the same :( )
    Have a great day

    Alessia,

You might also try to get hold of Phil Borges’ book ‘Enduring Spirit’.

    Very inspirational for me.

I think you would like it too.

I’m not much of a book person, so forgive my ignorance here… but I have picked up the odd few from Magnum on Play.com as recommended to me by TheDarkRoom –

    http://www.play.com/Search.aspx?searchtype=bookall&searchstring=magnum&page=search&pa=search

“Magnum Magnum” is seriously good value for money… Hardback, 568 pages, loads of excellent illustrations… looks well on the coffee table too if you’re that way inclined.

Have to say I really enjoyed “Magnum Ireland” and “New Yorkers: As Seen by Magnum Photographers”.

The books I have, not a complete list – what I can think of, and all I would recommend, but I built them up over a few years

The Animals – Gerry Winograd (maybe my favourite, although I don’t like zoos)
William Eggleston’s Guide – William Eggleston
Paris – Brassai (very good value, and great book)
Japan & Retrospective 1 & 2 Michael Kenna (beautiful books)
    Ireland – Dorothea Lange
Martin Parr (Commentary by Val Williams) (very good book)
After the off – Bruce Gilden

How You Look At It: Photographs of the 20th Century Weski & Liesbrock (Very interesting, Photos and essays)
    Understanding Exposure – Bryan Peterson
John Shaw’s Nature Photography Field Guide

    How about Mario Giacomelli?
His work is awesome but be careful to find a good publication, as the printing is very important, particularly for him.
I have a particular one of his photobooks in mind, it’s in a shop nearby, I just need to feel rich to justify the cost.

Can’t think of History of Photography books…

I know you are a dog lover Alessia, so I think you would really enjoy

Elliott Erwitt – To the Dogs. Beautiful. And Funny. And, sometimes a bit sad.

Others… I have some of the ones already listed, so I won’t repeat.

    Elliott Erwitt – Handbook
    Jill Furmanovsky – The Moment
Henri Cartier Bresson – The Mind’s Eye
    Henri Cartier Bresson – Scrapbook
    Brendan Murphy – Eyewitness

The 35 mm Photographers Handbook – Great little book.

And if you want something a bit head melting,

John Berger – Ways of Seeing

Not Photography, but still one to have.

    Banksy – Wall and Peace

    I want more books now.

I don’t see any books listed from members here…we should get out more and make some!! A group project, anyone? Of course, it couldn’t be called Photography Ireland as the IPF have that one cornered.

One book other than the duplications of some listed that I already have is called “The Moment and Beyond”. It’s a book on Irish photojournalism with some cracking real life imaging. Well worth the look…and so big you could use it as a coffee table to put your collection on.

    Alan.

Something I’ve always wanted the site to do tbh. I was involved in the Raw book
that some members took part in a few years ago, takes a fair bit of organising
but would no doubt be worth it.

Would be great if it was possible to get a book into the book shops at some stage
    down the line.

    Anyhow, different topic I guess…
