I’d have to go check my Photography books…bit like Mark…just tons of the darn things…a lot of the ones already mentioned are already on my bookshelf.

Just one thing I wanted to note though. I was going to buy that Magnum-Magnum book..as John said already..great value..

But then one evening, while visiting with Mick(451) he showed me his original edition hardbound beautifully boxed copy of self same book, and I just couldn’t look at the paperback, or indeed the vastly inferior current hardcopy version again.

Every photo in the book was like holding an original print…absolutely beautiful stuff.

Totally spoiled me for the mass produced version.

But it did make me appreciate a proper high quality photographic book, even if most of mine are of the cheaper variety unfortunately.

Just thought I’d share as the Americanos might say :-)

I was looking to get a copy of New York 1954-55 by William Klein but this only seems to sell for mega bucks.

Anyone have a copy? If so is it any good?

Anyone got the James Nachtway ‘Inferno’ book ?
I’ve watched the film ‘War Photographer’ very powerful and moving.

Mick, after I saw the book at your place, I went looking for it online, and if memory serves me right, when it can be gotten, it sells for between €400 and €500 euro!! So I think €100 was a bargain :-)

I bought the DVD of that documentary Mark…brilliant insight into the everyday life of a War Photographer.

    Don’t have the book unfortunately.

I got the Magnum Magnum regular hardback from Play for €34. It’s out of stock at the moment though. Sometimes they have to wait for a minimum number of orders before putting a request in with the publisher.

I ordered “In Our Time” earlier this week from Amazon… could’ve swore I selected the hardback cos I never buy paperback… it arrived today… paperback… damn.

Mark, I have “Inferno” by James Natchwey.

It is heart and gut wrenching and amazing. Not a book you can take in all in one sitting, but incredible.

That’s a good price John. I’d be tempted to pick it up at that price, even if it is the original I really crave…hehe!!

Play can be quite good for book bargains. I just recieved the last in the Millenium trilogy, The Girl Who Played with Fire, in hardback from them. Cost me the grand total of €15, which a lot of the bookshops are charging for the paperback.:

Edit: See they’ve reduced the Millenium book to €10.49 now…Bugger!! Bargain at that price if you’ve read the other 2 in the series.

Double Edit: I really should not post early (for me) on a Sunday. The 3rd book, for anyone interested is The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest, the one above is the second book. I think I should go back to bed now ;-)

This is my present to myself this year.

    http://www.amazon.com/Zaida-Ben-Yusuf-York-Portrait-Photographer/dp/1858944392/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1257707399&sr=8-2-fkmr0

Zaida Ben Usef’s portrait “The Odor of Pomegranate” is simply divine. She was nothing short of genius.

Got a couple of more over the Xmas period.

    Sahel – Salgado
Exposures – Jane Bown (Fleet Street photographer for over 6 decades – mostly celeb portraits – very good)
William Eggleston’s Guide by John Szarkowski
The Photographers Eye by John Szarkowski – excellent read so far

Anyone else add to their book collections ?
