I have finally got my own website up and running. In a couple of days it will be http://www.rossmckelvey.com but until the domain name clicks in, it can be accessed at the following link:

    http://www.clikpic.com/rossomck

I have linked to a couple of people on here. If anyone else wants to be put in the links section let me know.

Nice job Ross – I see you’re using the same site (clickpic) as Rene and a few others. Wonder if PI could get some kind of group discount from them for future orders…

Like mine, the site suffers a little in originality due to the “template” feel to it – personally I’m happy to have this as a trade off for the sheer ease of updating, and I’m guessing you are too.

My only observation to consider is that portrait shots get more screen space than landscapes… This makes it look a little odd. Also different crops can end up with the site looking a little “wobbly” if you’re not careful – I ended up decising on a common crop ratio for all pics on my site. It’s a toss up between a neat looking site, and the ideal crop for each shot…

    Hope it helps!

Thanks Tim. I noticed that problem with photos in portrait mode, so I have changed the order to try to balance similar style images together now. And added you to the links as well of course,

Your own site looks great btw!

Very nice Ross. I’ve always been a big fan of keeping things
simple. Easy to navigate, no clutter, top drawer in my book.

Good stuff Ross, I like the fact you added sales to it, I need to do that for mine, is it difficult? Mine is also a clickpic

    Hi rene
No it’s not difficult – just click the option to ‘link with paypal account’ and then set up price options . Let me know if you have any problems.

Just noticed (don’t know how, not even finished my first coffee) that on your links page, you have photographyireland.com, is it not .net?

    Hi Ross,
Yip looks good alright. There’s some lovely portraits there, I really like that shot of the sea, kinda blurred motion to it. The Other gallery I like too.
I’ve just set up a clikpic site too. I have to sing their praises, very easy and simple to use and a good price too.

Simplicity is key when you look at photographers site.
the focus should be on the pictures and not the the site.
Your site is clean, fast and all about the pictures.
Also your selection of images is broad and clearly representative of your work and sytle.

    Nice site Ross

Thanks everyone for the commments. It is noticeable that my landscape gallery is on the ‘almost empty’ guage but hopefully this Summer I will be able to improve on that.
I am hoping to share a Sunday morning venture out with some of the accomplished landscape brigade in the Spring/Summer. You have been warned!!
