PeteTheBlokeMemberI was here once and found it hard to compose a good shot. Them English
wouldn’t believe our beaches if they saw them!I reckon this is a good effort. I like the bright patches of colour against
the textures of the foreground and the pebbles.lousyParticipantDon’t ask me what it is Richie, but there’s something appealing about this shot.
Maybe it’s the contrast of colours.. I don’t know but I like it.Pat
jb7ParticipantYes, I like it too-
something a bit Hockney about it-
just missing the palm trees-j
RobMemberHockney, yes I can see that too…
There’s a pleasing symmetry to this, accentuated by the
lines in the foreground. Beautiful colour. Nice one Richie…Rob.
nfl-fanParticipantI’d agree with all the pleasantries that others have pointed out so far.
The only thing that throws me off is this: You have a nice straight horizon, where the paving meets the beach is nice and straight, but where the beach meets the sea is crooked.
Now… understandably… this is probably the way it is in real life, and probably not easily fixed, but I can’t take my eye of it for some reason. It just throws off the symmetry for me.
richiehatchMemberThanks guys…!
Hockney..? :?: I’ll just have to take your word for that!
Dam you NFL… now its all I see too…! Grrrrr…!
Richie
sean1098MemberYes a simple but nice shot.the layout of the tables and different tones on them and the benches makes the shot.
I spent a week in Brighton myself in Feb. Lovely place, will definitely go back. I see you got the weather aswell Richie.
Sean.
richiehatchMemberI wish I had a week… i had about 3-4 hours… was lucky with the weather. It looks like a great place. Would like to go back too.
Richie
annkenParticipantI like the ‘crooked’! You dont want to be too Obsessive compulsive about everything being absolutely perfect, especially when you are taking a pic from nature, surely.
It has wonderful symmetry but its not a mondrian, and I’d hate it to be in this instance.
Because the composition is severe anyway, the curve of the sea and beach adds a needed softness, and I woulnt consider it a fault but a bonus and necessity.
xAnnRobertoMemberThe colours and shadows are great.
I would make it more simple…. crop the sky and the bottom part…..or more drastic crop:
bluesmanParticipantGreat shot, I am hooked on English seaside resorts, piers and fronts, I think this works well as it is, if it was a painting the painter wouldn’t have bothered to straighten and level everything, why does it bother photographers? probably because we can.
DeeboParticipantGood shots Ritchie.
I like crops that Roberto has made.I think some selective colouring might work for these too, with maybe just the brollies or benches
