Lovely set Brendan, really like the colours in the last shot. I didn’t get out there this year, was there many Puffins about.

Lovely set Brendan. The 100-400 seems to be a great “bird in flight” lens.

    Thks Gents :)

Seaview – The puffins will be there until July 10th – give or take a day or two.
I’d guess there are 25-30 pairs on the Island. Needless to say – hard to spot among the razor bills and guillemots flying past.

I sit on the same ledge for 6 hrs – about 500 metres past the gannet colony – and wait.

You may get one flying around every 10-15 min or so….but he’ll do 4-5 figure of 8 loops out into the sea until he lands….so you get a couple of chances before another appears. He’s looking to make sure it’s safe to land with the catch.

Thks – No tripod or beanbag – all hand held….and a few practise shots the 100’s of razorbills first for exposure and focal length.

I’m going to Rahtlin Island next week for a few days – around 1000 up there i’ve been told. Might be easier for you?

The Big Plus is you can stay on the Island in hotel or B&B’s – so great for dawn & sunset portraits – at least i hope so.
Small issue with the Saltees & skelligs is the harsh sun – then you have to head back to boat.
Rathlin have day trips too from Ballycastle.
