My Sigma 10-20mm fell over the weekend (note: never leave your camera near a nightclub speaker which causes the table surface to vibrate and slowly move your camera until it falls!).
Now the filter has cracked, and possibly the glass behind it. I can’t tell at the moment as i can’t unscrew the filter off (the way it landed has slightly warped the threads on the filter or lens).
a) Is the solution to carefully break the filter off myself and just live with the fact that i wont be able to fit another filter to it again?
b) If the glass is broken what can i do with it? Can this be replaced, or am i going to have to buy a new lens?
I seem to remember a discussion on getting jammed filters off here some time back, have a bit of a search and you should turn it up. If it needs repairs, Hahnel down in Bandon are the official Sigma service agent here.
As it turns out it was just the filter that broke – lens is fine – i’m yet to remove the outer ring of the filter, i don’t think another one wil go on anyway.
